BANGKOK: -- As Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha is scheduled to make a boat travel to inspect the flood situation and deliver aids to people affected by floods in downstream provinces of Ayutthaya and Ang Thong, the Royal Irrigation Department said it has decreased water vented out of Chao Phraya dam to ease flooding situation downstream, and prepare to take in more water from expected rainfalls.

It said it has decreased venting levels from the Chao Phraya dam to 1,644 cubic meters per second yesterday, resulting in a significant drop in water levels along low lying territories downstream of the dam by 20 – 30 cm.

Furthermore, irrigation officials are attempting to drain these overflows into the Gulf of Thailand as quickly as possible through the Klong Lat Pho floodgates.

Up to the present, they report that since the opening of flood sluices on September 25 as much as 187 million cubic meter of excess water have been drained into the Gulf of Thailand.

Meanwhile flood situation is improving in Ayuthaya province with water levels in the Chao Phraya and Pa Sak rivers falling significantly.

With huge volumes of water pouring into the Chao Praya north of the Chainat dam from the Ping, Wang,Yom and Nan rivers and the high tides in the gulf, the waters between Ayuttaya and the  mouth of the river are squeezed into every available klong, hence ,the predictable flooding. I doubt the Irrigation Dept is releasing waters from the two northern Royal dams as they arev  well below capacity.

I'd say they have a clue, but can't solve the problem.
