Adding child born abroad to house book

Featured Replies

Hello,

My Thai girlfriend is trying to add our daughter to her house book.

She went to the local office with both kid's Thai passport and kid's Thai birth certificate.

On both documents the parents are stated in both Latin and thai alfabeth.

They asked for my passport to be officially translated and legalized in BKK.

Is this part of the normal requirments?

I don't understand why they don't want to use the translation of my name from the passport or birth certificate.

Thank you for the help

There is no uniformity with district offices. Some want a legalised translation while others don't.

You might have to bite the bullet and do what they ask. My recommendation is to email a pdf scan of your passport to the translation company and pay by bank transfer.

They will translate, get the legalisation and ems the finished document back to you.

They won't need a translation of your passport because if you already have a Thai birth certificate they should just register you child but I have recently been trying to do the same thing with no success, you will need to go to the MOFA in Bangkok and they should give you the necessary paperwork, maybe? Remember This Is Thailand, rules can change depending on the person.

thanks guys!

I will try to go again with: birth certificate, marriage certificate, thai letter from my embassy (Italian) legalized by Thai ministry. All stating my full name in Thai characters.

Let's see if they accept any of those.

will keep you posted
