Paying bills in Europe

Featured Replies

Hi

I  had to pay a bill in Europe of 40000 Baht this month.

SCB charged me 1900 Baht for the transfer...

I know Thais worship greed but:

Can that not be done cheaper ?

:wai:

Presumably you didn't pay in Baht, you paid in which currency? And does that 1900 baht include the foreign currency exchange?

The bill was about 990 Euro and 1900 Was all included...

Should I in the future try and get an account in Euro or USD ?

Or get an account in Europe and keep some money there

It sounds as though a charge of 1900 baht was probably about right! There's a sending fee, a receiving fee (if paid at the sending end) and then the currency exchange rate, those things would get to 1900 baht pretty quickly.

Your options going forward are either an account in Europe or a foreign currency account here, the latter may not be cost effective since there are charges in lieu of commission when you send your own foreign currency overseas. For me, it sounds like an overseas account is the way to go.
