Air Filter Cleaning

Featured Replies

Hi, just curious as to what to use to clean a foam air filter in a motorbike?

Any recomendations for a good, widely available product? I bought a can of Norca Foam, which is a foam designed to clean household air conditioners, not sure if this could be used. Has anyone else used it?

Cheers, and thanks in advance.

If it's anything like the foam air cleaners you can get for a car or truck then warm soapy water works just fine. Clean with that then rinse with warm water.

Any good grease cutting dishwashing soap works fine.

If it's the type of filter that uses oil be sure to re-oil the filter with clean oil.

I'd advise you to go to the dealer and buy a new one. They are not expensive. The reason I say this is that I used to get my oil changed by a small shop. I was always happy with them until they cleaned the foam filter. The next time I had the bike serviced I watched them take out the filter and it had disintegrated. Almost the entired center on the filter was gone and apparently was sucked through the engine. I guess it didn't hurt anything because it caused no problems that I was aware of. I'd much rather have been using a new filter.

The bike was a Kawasaki Boss.
