Visa ED extension (Internship)

Featured Replies

Right now I'm doing an internship in Thailand for 5 months. I entered the country with an Non Immigrant ED visa (so for 90 days) which will expire at the 20th of October.

At the moment I'm clueless of what to do, I know its possible to leave the country and apply for a new visa in an other country, but my budget is limited and I don't want to spend to much on traveling for a new visa. I heard people saying its possible to get a new visa trough my company but I don't think they have any knowledge of this at my company. I also saw its possible to get a visa extension at the immigration service but I couldn't find anything about what was needed for the visa if you are doing an internship. I do have the chance to leave the country for a few days since I can take off when ever I like to, but now I would like to know what the best option is, what is the easiest, less risk full and cheapest to do to get my visa extended.

Thank you in advance!

At the moment I'm clueless   and you got an ed visa  ???

It is unlikely that you will be able to obtain an extension unless your internship is linked to a Thai university.

A single entry Non "B" visa could be obtained from a nearby country with paperwork supplied by your employer but another "Ed" visa is not likely to be available.

Thats good to know. No my company is not linked to a Thai university, so I guess that means I still have to leave the country.

Yes I do, but so far I did not look into this matter, all I knew was that I had to leave or extend my visa after 3 months. Its hard to find information about visas with internships since other files are needed and other rules apply when you are doing an internship apparently.

Hi maxdb

How did everything go with regards to extending your visa ? I’m currently in the same  situation you were in two years ago and just need to know what happened / what to do?

Any help is much appreciated.

TIA x

I assume he left the country to get a new non-ed visa since he has not visited the forum since October of 2016.

As said before an extension of stay is not possible unless the internship is through a Thai university.
