BACKGROUD: I have worked/lived in Thailand over 10 years with a work permit. Now I am no longer EMPLOYED in Thailand so came in on a 30 day Exemption scheme stamp in September and I now have the 30 day extension which gives me until November 1 before I have to leave the country.  NOTE: I plan to go back to my home country inMay or  June 2017 so I am not interested in a Retirement Visa though I just turned 65yr.

I have read all the different kinds of visas and I think I read where I can apply for an extension at Thai immigration--Thai Immigration "O" visa at the Thai Immigration office on Changwatang in BKK (before I thought I had to fly out of the country to get this.) I ask for a 90 day permission at the Thai immigration office in Bangkok; then get a one year extension at my local immigration office which would be Jomtien. I do not see what paper work i need for this.

Before I thought I had to apply for an "O-A"which requires more "hoops" to jump through plus fly out of the country and get the "OA" visa at a consulate.

If anyone has any information on this please share your thoughts or experiences.

Thanks'

To obtain the conversion(it is not an extension)  from your current visa exempt entry+extension to a Non "O" entry you will need at least 15 days remaining of your permission to stay and  800,000 Baht in a Thai bank or evidence of having 65K/Baht monthly income certified by your Embassy. The process will involve two visits to immigration.

You can apply for 90 day non immigrant visa (catagory O) entry at Jomtien immigration based upon qualifying for an extension of stay for retirement. You will need at least 15 days remaining on your entry when you  apply.

You will need 800k baht in a Thai bank on the date you apply (no 60 day requirement) or proof of 65k baht income or a combination of the 2 totaling 800k baht.

What you will need depends upon which financial proof you use.
