October 9, 20169 yr Hello people. A friend of mine in Kanchanaburi is worried after realising his METV expires tomorow. Apparently these visas cant be extended by 30 days (?) he was hoping to go to the Burmese border 45 minutes from Kanchanaburi (which is called "Htee Khee" on the Burma side) and do a border bounce, in and out, without having to obtain a Burmese visa from BKK prior. Does that make sense? Sorry if I havent explained it very well but in a nutshell his METV is over tomorow, and he is hoping for an easy sollution at the closest border. A couple of months back this particular border stopped issuing Burmese visas on arival and forced people to go BKK first and obtain one. That was probably a temporary thing and he has just heard a report that it is back to VOA now but confirmation would be good if anyone knows? He is off to Australia for a few weeks at the end of next week idealy needs something to tick him over untill then. Obviously a 5 day overstay is a massive risk. I guess its a long shot getting feedback on this one as its a remote border that not many people use! Any feedback on what to do would be appreciated though. many kind thanks TLS
October 9, 20169 yr The Ban Phu Nam Ron crossing working again. The Myanmar side has started doing border passes again. The total fee is now 950 baht for the crossing. He can get a 30 day extension of his 60 day entry from the METV. There is no rule that prohibits him from getting the extension.
October 9, 20169 yr Any entry gained from an METV can be extended by 30 days at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 Bht.
October 9, 20169 yr Author Thats great - appreciate the advice very much, just passed it on to him. Thanks again.

I live minutes from the border but drove all the way to ranong and got harassed like crazy by immigration like never before. Ive been in kanchanaburi for a while and never been able to use the bordee s it made no sense as it was actually quicker and cheaper to head to ranong instead of trips to bkk to get visas. This is great news! Really wish clarity and information was a strong trait of immigrtion officials and so on. Thanks for the good news.

Wow, so they've changed it again. Any idea why this keeps happening with this border ?

In another topic it was said there was a conflict on dividing the money up between both sides of the border. Still no visa exempt border hops though.
