Thailand to solve illegal migrant workers comprehensively

BANGKOK, 13 October 2016 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan has said Thailand has made significant progress in addressing human trafficking as well as illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

Speaking at a panel meeting to discuss illegal immigration and human trafficking, the General Prawit claimed that powerful nations have praised Thailand for its determination in tackling human trafficking.

The meeting discussed a wide range of issues concerning migrant labor, including the establishment of migrant worker service centers at three provinces to provide identification certificates. Cambodian nationals can pick up their ID certificates at the centers in Bangkok, Phathum Thani and Chonburi provinces, while Myanmar workers can pick up their ID certificates at the centers in Tak, Ranong, Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakarn and Chiang Rai provinces.

The panel also discussed the need to rigorously enforce immigration laws through the Royal Thai Police, the Immigration Bureau and other relevant units. The meeting resolved to streamline the influx of legal migrant workers via memorandums of understandings signed between Thailand and other countries.

Currently, migrant workers are required to renew their work permit once every two years and can only renew their permits four times. The panel considered developing a migrant worker management plan to be implemented from 2017-2022. The plan is aimed at reducing the country's dependence on migrant workers, installing an effective migrant monitoring system, and raising the standards of skilled workers.

then who is gonna do all the crap jobs!

the problem with illegal workers is the Thai government,  making it hard to allow renewal / applying. Thailand can benefit greatly from the influx of workers if they overhaul the system to make it easier in regards to application, processing, renewal process. But heck they can't even figure out their education, can't expect too much from them.

Are you insinuating that the Thai government is unable to capably govern, and makes things far more difficult than they should be ?  If so, you are not alone ;-)
