LEIPZIG: -- Emails threatening violence sent numerous German high schools into lockdown on Monday. Armed officers were deployed to 11 establishments in the eastern city of Leipzig and two in Magdeburg, in the centre of Germany.

Authorities say they believe the emails were a hoax. They are said to have referenced a terror-plot suspect, who was found hanged in his prison cell last Wednesday (October 12).
