You should be able to apply for a single entry non-o visa for being 50 or over at the embassy in Phnom Penh. You will need to show 800k baht in the bank or proof of income.

You also might have to wait for an a couple of hours before you know whether they will accept your application. The staff accepting applications will not do it until they get approval from a higher ranking officer.

Many thanks Joe.

Would that be for 90 days and convert to extension in Thailand ?.

Also, if I need to leave during the 90 days, can I get a re-entry permit.

Thanks again.

The visa will allow one 90 day entry. You could apply for an extension of stay during the last 30 days of the entry.

You can get a single re-entry permit to keep the remainder of the 90 days valid when your enter the country after your trip.

I was at immigration on Monday, was going to apply for retirement extension, and was told my paperwork qualified me for it,but told it is a step by step process an initially I'd get two months, then come back for next step, in the end I was politely told I'd be better to get a non O in another country giving me 90 days, then immigration here will convert it to 1 year. They were extra helpful too. Is what I'm told correct?

Yes. The easiest place to obtain the "O" visa would be Vientiane,Laos or Penang, Malaysia.

Presumably you are here with a tourist visa or visa exempt entry which is why there is a two step process. The first step being to "convert" the current entry to an "O" visa entry.

You will be applying for an "extension of stay" toward the end of the 90 day entry the "O" visa provides. Nothing is "converted"
