Nong Khai Visa run Non O based on Family Trip Report

Featured Replies

Disclaimer: I am by no means a visa expert all i am doing is simply reporting events that occurred during my visa run.  As it is with situations like this, yours may be totally different.

So we drove out of khon kaen to Nong Khai.  Got there around 10AM.  I used a fixer location at (www.nongkhaihotelandresort.com).  Her English was letter perfect American.  She took care of my Laos Visa, my wife's border pass, hotel in Laos, van transport, photos for Thai visa, entry and exit cards etc etc.  We did not have to wait at either Thai or Laos immigration.  In and out within 5 minutes both ways crossing the border.

I arrived at 1120 to the Thai Consulate.  I proceeded to the left inside the building to have my paperwork complete.  They filled out the visa forms for me and did a document check, made all the required copies.  Here is what was required.

One Visa Form
Two Photos glued to the visa form.
Marriage license
Wife change of name certificate
1 copy of my passport picture page
1 copy of current Thai visa
1 copy of Laos visa
Proof of funds and pension letter
1 copy of Wife's ID Card
1 Copy of Wife family book
1 copy each child's birth certificate
2000 baht

Once my paperwork was completed and I paid my 50 baht fee, i proceeded outside to the document check table, where they reviewed it, stamped it and gave me a number.  I was number 287.  Then i watched in horror as many expats were being turned away.  Keeping my cool I waited my turn.  I had the wife with me and she went through the package with the consular person.  We were given a receipt and told to come back the next day.  Its very hot under the waiting area, bring water guys.

So we went to the hotel which for 1200 baht was a bit of a disappointment, but the air con worked.  Dinner consisted of Japanese food then straight back to the room for some rest.

Next morning up at 7AM for breakfast which was well bad i guess is all i can say about that.  Our van picked us up at 9AM and we went and saw a bunch of temples got massages and then went to the mall.  Had some Korean BBQ at the mall that was fantastic.  130 rolls around and back at the embassy, where we wait for our turn.  They call the numbers 1 by 1 and i was the last one.  At 320 we get called I pay 2000 baht and got my visa.  Then straight to the border, same process in and out in 5 minutes with a quick stop at duty free for liquor.  Our fixer drops us off at our car in Nong khai and we drive back stopping for BBQ chicken on the outskirts of Khon Kaen.

That was pretty much the trip.

Re the Nong Khai "fixer," what was the tab for everything?

you can ring her <contact member by personnel message for phone numbers>

she has a map on her card, but my i phone is being stubborn today connecting to my pc.

your tab depends on your situation and what you would like her to take care of.  Each situation would be different.  We wanted to do much more than I am sure the average visa runner would want to do.
