yet another small (and probably to some even irrelevant) sign of the changing face of Pattaya is that New Zealand ice cream have vacated their spot on level 6 of Central Festival Pattaya Beach.

It's been replaced by yet another luggage vendor.:saai:

It was good quality ice cream .

I didn't think much of their ice-cream...Swensens is perfectly adequate for half the price...how's the luggage?

the quality and standard of ingredients between the two companies can't possibly be compared

if price is the driving force behind the choice of ice cream that you eat don't overlook the 20 baht cones that Kentucky fried chicken sell:giggle:

Yes I noticed that new place on my beachfront drive by yesterday afternoon   could be the largest Starbucks in the world ?

I remember that one. I didn't buy any from it because I thought the prices were too high. It's just ice cream to most.

Same reason I don't buy NZ meat. Far too expensive.

and if ever you buy wine do you apply the same principles?

Don't buy wine.

Re ice cream- it's something cold and sweet on a hot day, not a life changing experience. If someone wants to sell food at twice the price of next door, it'd better be spectacular.

To a different poster, DQ does the trick for me with their sugary treats at a reasonable price.

I agree with the OP that N.Z. natural has an exceptionally good product and not remotely in the same class as Swensons.

I like Swensons because their serving wenches are DDG and cute. I couldn't care less about the ice cream.

As I said, didn't think their ice-cream was that good; if I'm feeling premium on a given day, I go for Hagen Daz, otherwise, Swensen's is perfectly adequate.

If your point is that there is getting to be too much retail space in Pattaya I wouldn't necessarily disagree...the general economic slowdown would militate for less but it seems we get more. I don't really care one way or the other, as it's not my money going into these failed businesses, and in some ways it makes my life more convenient. ..at least while they're open.

yes actually the point of this thread wasn't to argue about ice cream taste but to point out that retail outlets are obviously struggling here.when you say you don't care we should care because without a minimum number of successful tenants in any shopping centre to provide a critical mass the place can't survive in the long run. It doesn't bode well for Terminal 21:sad:

I know we're at the mercy here of the TVF Poster No Change rule, but truth is that some retail outlets will always be struggling everywhere except in North Korea. You're concerned with the minimum number (what is that number?), but then you noted that the number hasn't actually changed, as the ice cream shop was replaced with a luggage vendor. You've also used the word outlet vaguely to refer to a shop and an entire mall.

Sorry, though you may bring it up, I'm not allowed to respond about any other retail outlet or draw any comparisons but must confine myself narrowly to only the one in the topic. Perhaps NanLaew, with his better grasp of economics, will be along to shed more light here.

Obviously not enough passers by were "reassured" by it's higher price.

If it was the brand New Zealand natural ice-cream?

It's new Zealand ice-cream in name only.

New Zealand natural is a Chinese owned BRAND!! Most if not all the ice-cream is not new Zealand made or surced from NZ

It's all a clever marketing ploy that seems to fool the minority

If you want NZ ice-cream go to NZ buy some tip top brand ice cream from a local dairy store...

WOW you are skating on very thin ice there by  denigrating their product and implying that it is not sourced in New Zealand.

If you want the best then you have to pay for it! Some will compromise.

No. - Only meaningless businesses that are not functioning or selling unwanted goods at an innapropriate price. Just look at how successful the Japanese and Korean restaurants are. Real product and good prices. NZ ice cream is an utter irrelevance. The terminal 21 food court will be great- cheap - great variety and great views. I can't wait and don't even like malls!

No, nobody said that when it opened, which would be obviously absurd; in fact, there was skepticism from all quarters combined with some hope. Nor could it ever be said to be successful. Quite out of place and not geared towards the market, that shop. Whoops! I forgot I must hew strictly to the original topic.

Let's do not resort to lying and the usual exaggeration in the hope of blowing up the closing of a superfluous failed ice cream shop (immediately replaced by another shop) into the general DOOM prophecy that appears to be the main point of your post.

you talk about exaggeration  :giggle:

New Zealand ice cream has not been replaced by another shop! It's just a group of suitcases out in the open.

I mean I've lost count of how many of these places there are now and it's almost like a last resort instead of keeping the place looking bare.

and it's not doom and gloom it simply predicting a trend that we will see a lot more of.

Hey those roll down doors are still selling like crazy, reminds me of the founders of Apple and a few other big techs starting in garages, I invested in a garage company and ended up installing garage doors. I really do see a big slow down here though. Three hundred baht per day doesn't buy much ice cream and I don't see to many big fat farangs like me coming around anymore. I bet we see a massive difference in the next five years.

only you consider it a superfluous failed ice cream shop. The loyal customers init's  650 ice cream parlours   in more than 24 countries obviously don't think the same way as you.
