No truth to bomb reports at Bangkok department store - police say it was just a fire

BANGKOK: -- Reports on social media that a bomb had exploded in the Fashion Island department store in Minburi, Bangkok, yesterday are false, said police.

Police HQ spokesman Kritsana Patanacharoen said that the incident was a fire in a gold shop in the underground basement of the store, reports Sanook.

Initial indications are that a phone being charged at the Siam Gold Yaowarat shop had caused a short circuit resulting in the fire.

Kritsana said that one person was injured and is still in hospital.

Authorities brought the fire under control but there was some damage to property.

He said that there was no need for the public to be alarmed and sad that people should not believe all they see on social media.

He asked anyone who witnesses illegal activity or serious incidents to call 191 or 1599.

Well, Note 7 never did reach Thailand, but I heard some iPhone 5/6/7 did indeed burn in the same way, put in the picture a Chinese cheap charger, and voila...

I'm not sure that the original warnings of bombs in BKK were legitimate.....so much propaganda nowadays, much is fiction.

Just a smokey fire.

Sorry, it's not my style to play grammar police, but I have to laugh when I read this mistake, because the implications are vast ... The fact is, most people do believe (almost) everything that is printed, said or shown in the media, even though we are in a age when manipulation of information and the dubious 'art' of disinformation have reached unprecendented levels. Interestingly though, most people will also tell you that they are aware of it but the sad fact is, they're not.

Does it imply that most people are fools ? No, it's just a quantity problem. To make ourselves aware of media manipulation, we have to be on the lookout, keep a critical eye and ear, and it is simply not possible, because we are constantly bombarded with information. Even the most educated/intelligent person simply cannot filter everything that is written and shown to him/her, because they would be doing nothing else !

Same goes for stereotypes. At one point or another, we all deplore the fact that stereotypes are limitative and over-simplifying, which they are, but that doesn't stop us from using them because life goes on, a million things happen every hour, every day, and naturally we choose the 'easy path' when we don't have a specific reason not to do so (like, for example, when the stereotype is somehow 'against us').

To whom it may concern
I can't imagine creatures would harm Thailand the country of Buddha a messenger of God peace be up on him  and the majority of Thai believers rather than thinking of sick human maniacs would do such a horrible thing.
May Allah protect Thailand and its beloved people

Did you inhale the smoke? Are you ok fella?

"He said that there was no need for the public to be alarmed and sad that people should not believe all they see on social media"

I have a hard time believing anything anymore!

Well the pipe bomb at the back of Siam Paragon some 15 months back...hardly any headlines on that one and of course the pipe bomb down in the carpark at the shopping mall at Chewang Beach was another.More good luck than anything else no one was hurt.

Well they have always checked bags entering Tokyu Department store at MBK and the underpass there at Asoke from the BTS .The other location that really checks bags is the MRT entrance at Petchaburi coming from the airport...What a pain that guy is..made me open up my  big bag last time!

Guess they still don't know how to train dogs to sniff...would be much easyier.

It was a mobile telephone/charger fire; BUT, " He asked anyone who witnesses illegal activity or serious incidents to call 191 or 1599.'.

So should we call them to tell those illegal phonechargers are sold in the MBK? One day those things will put a hotel/plane/boat/mall on fire but even that won't stop the Thai selling them.

Also i bet that nobody behind 191 or 1599 can spea inlit....
