Does anyone have any insights into the "You have a lucky face" thing?

Featured Replies

A close friend of mine told me his father went to India to learn how to scam people using Astrology and palm reading.

His father said in India there have schools that teach you all these tricks.

So when I met this Sikh guy saying to me, "You have a lucky face", I asked him "do you believe in God?" And he said, "yes", then I say to him , "you mean you are talking about God and you are doing this, oh no - ( at the same time I make a wanking gesture with one hand while saying that)

He looked disgusted and don't bother me anymore.

I once did a palm reading in Pattaya and it was obvious that one of the bar girls from the bar across the street had told her many things about me. It was well worth the 200 baht to learn just how close the girls paid attention to my conversations with other farangs.

it's always a scam to get your money...u are doing the smart thing by saying, "Then why am I so unlucky?" and walk away...an excellent response!

If you want a real story to tell you play the game with him...but NEVER ever take a drink/food because it will be drugged.

You'll go play cards somewhere, they let you win a few times and after that you loose. They'll take your creditcard and cash the heck out of it and later dump you somewhere and you won't remember anything (if you took their food/drink).

This scam is so old and ALWAYS done by foreigners to Thailand...somehow the police won't stop this gang....it's very old now.

I think you made up this story. Lucky.

What is old is your complete and total lack of understanding of what is involved in the the OP's request for information. Please stop reading Thai newspapers and confusing three different stories and merging them into one to make your own horror story, one that will scare tourists. BTW have you ever been to Thailand or are you simply day dreaming!

I don't think so...they approached me several times and i even played the game. There are gangs hanging around in BKK who try tourists, if you look like a fresh tourist they will approach you as well...

Rubbish!

There are Filipino card game scams but they are totally separate from what the OP asked about.

The OP asked about the "you have lucky eyes" scam, that's a lead into fortune telling, at a price, and has been around lower Suckie for at least fifteen years. The best solution to that approach is to do what the locals do and that is look ahead when you're walking, by at least twenty metres and then drop your gaze as people come closer. When you see a lucky man scam, scream at him to p*ss off, before he has a chance to speak.

I got the I'll tell you your Mother's name a few times and it totally freaked me out. No way would I engage with such people.

It is just a line to try to get the attention of a gullible person... everyone has a lucky face... hard to imagine that anyone might fall for this silliness...

Wow! You  got the  "lucky  face  approach !

I have repeatedly  got the "you are a good person but you are  not lucky. "

Smarmy Swami.....I share   my luck  with   them.  555

Just give them 10 baht and move on . Tell them its a lucky coin.

It's a classic come-on, usually to some kind of fortune-telling session (maybe some other things as well; not sure).  I've experienced it mostly from Indians on the street, but not so much in recent years as before.

From my observations in Starbucks 11 years ago, often their marks were female tourists from Singapore, Hong Kong, etc.  Though the ones who called the cops on them that I referred to above were scruffy farang backpacker types.

they start off by asking where you are from,  I tell them Rhodesia,  and they  then say  they have  friend or cousin living there.

as for guessing my mothers name, their guess is as good as mine, I was adopted.

"Gor bliyme guvner, youve got a lucky face.Oive nevah seen such a lucky boat race for a dogs age.gives ers a few shillings,a bob or two an i'll tell  ee,  wots gonna ' appen in your <deleted>,yers a shinier dial i nevah did see"

How on earth can these Indian guys actually believe that it still works?

I had it once on soi 9 years ago.I got the speil, and i just said that "if i'm so <deleted> lucky, why have i ended up talking to you"

i got one who could guess all kinds of stuff near khoa san road, and he got them all correct - i had to write them down but i made sure he could not see what I was writing... anyway, 3 things he got right such as my gfs name and a few other things - i said well done, but im still not giving you any money as I am just a backpacker without much money... he told me i would die on this trip i was taking - it was about 10 years ago now.
