Am on a extension based on retirement due to run out 1st nov when I got it last year I also got a multi entry visa which I presume runs out same time.

My question is if I go to savannakhet today or tm can I still get a non o multi visa based on marriage will the new multi take affect from the day I get it??? Don't want to be stamped back in on the one that expires on 1st nov associated with extension of stay.

You don't have a multiple entry visa now. You have a multiple re-entry permit for your extension based upon retirement. It will expire on the date your extension does.

After you get the multiple entry non-o visa it will be up to the immigration officer on entry as to whether to stamp you until the re-entry permit expires or use the visa. Since your re-entry permit will only be valid for about 6 days he should use the visa. Be sure you put your visa number on the arrival card.

have you thought about getting a 60 day extension to visit Thai wife at the local immigration office, you could then delay making the trip to Savannakhet to late December,

Thanks but already in the area visiting friends so will go over today and see how it pans out tm my fault never thought about it. If immigration stamp me in on old re entry visa will just have to pop up to Vientiane, and do an in and out on the 1st nov. As I say my fault will try sweet talking immigration at border on way out.

Am I missing something!

The OP has an extension based on retirement and a multi re entry permit expiring on 1st November.

Why not just renew his extension and re-entry permit at his local Imm office.

Perhaps he cannot meet the financial requirements. That seems to be the most likely reason.

Yes I don't want to renew using retirement extension and have no intention of jumping through hoops to get an extension based on marriage so I decided the easiest and best way suited for me was to get a non o based on marriage at savannakhet. That way if I don't want the 60 day extensions I don't have to go near an immigration office.

I have done 9 extensions based upon marriage and have never felt I was having to jump through hoops to get it. In fact they were all easy to get.
