One-2-Call cards running out at 7-Elevens

BANGKOK: -- MANY 7-Eleven convenience stores have run out of Advanced Info Service’s One-2-Call refill cards as the country’s largest cellular operator and CP All, the operator of 7-Eleven, have yet to reach agreement on their new revenue-sharing rate.

Titipong Khiewpaisal, AIS senior vice president, said yesterday that CP All stopped ordering the prepaid cards early this month.
He declined to elaborate, while CP All also declined to comment.

A telecom industry source said CP All is still negotiating for a possibly higher share of the sales of AIS refill cards at its 7-Elevens.

Let me guess CP who owns 7Eleven and True and so many other businesses in Thailand wants more more more and more. It would be nice if there were less CP in Thailand. Many of the products in 7Eleven are also made by CP.

How dare CP stock its own stores with its own products to maximize its own profits. just pure dumb business practice yeah ?

I get it Don. I just don't like monopolies. It could be worse.

Could also be that AiS are advertising the cards as being available at almost everywhere but 711.

I was told by the staff at 7-11 that no more cards system only on-line to up which

they'll be happy to do it for you, sign of the times I guess.

You don't get a Card you get a print out with the number to input.

They want more more AIS !  If they don't want to pay, more money then why should CP/7-11 carry their phone cards.

I guess you have never owned your own business ?

My Thai wife uses one 2 call but has only ever received a print out from 7/11's in Bangkok for years. Some rural 7/11's stock the refill cards but many have switched to just print outs whilst others sell both.

It is about competition.

CP is slowly becoming the only supplier in Thailand which bodes trouble for the consumers.

Maybe you understand that?

7-11 aren't CP's stores, he has a franchise from Seven & I holdings.co

Exactly Anthony  !

Semantics.

CP hold the major franchise licence for Thailand.

Yeh, and everyday they send me about 20 messages telling me to top up!!!

And no one else sells them???

This reminds me of Tesco v UniLever (the Marmite War)...

Seems big retailers are trying to beat up suppliers to get better terms than their rivals, sometimes they hit upon a nut to big to crack.

No problem. Online at MobileTopup.com is super easy.

This obviously all started while I was here in the sandpit. I walked into 7/11 on Beach road a couple of weeks ago and they laughed at me when I asked for 12Call top up.

But when I asked, they told you that me you can buy it in Family Mart.

And since there are now Family Marts everywhere, I walked about 100 yards and did it there.

No biggie. It means I'll generally be using Family Mart instead of 7/11 from now on, because I normally pick a few things up while I'm there.

So perhaps 7/11 should look beyond just the revenue sharing side of it.   ***

*** Added: Apologies for using a sentence in which I implied Thais use logic.

Exactly what I had assumed when the first threads about "no more 1-2-call topups at 7/11" came up.

The orange colored self-service machines are virtually everywhere English menu, easy as ...

From 100 Baht onward no extra fee.

Have clean note(s) at hand.

Just one of many alternatives.

But our 7/11s are refusing to do that even...

And no Family Mart within spitting distance?

They seem to be opening all over. They even (very nicely) put one slap outside the Tai Pan on Suk soi 23.

CP All, the holder of the franchise in Thailand owns nearly 80% of the stores in the country. This % is increasing steadily. Take a look at the name badges of the staff, if it says CP All it's company owned.

They own 46% of the 7/11 stores

Not according to what I'm told, and I'm one of their suppliers.

For at least 3 weeks all 7-11s in the On Nut/Bang Chak area had signs posted in the stores that they were unable to sell print out top up coupons. Had gf inquire as to why in a couple locations. One said mai ru... don't know. Next said... upgrading the system.

Can just go to AIS stores or TeleWiz and top up there. Or Family Mart assumably...

CP All doesn't own 7-Eleven: they just have an licence to trade their convenience stores under the 7-11 trademark: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CP_All

Neither do they own True: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_Corporation

If you have a Thai Bank account you can either topup AIS from an ATM or using the online banking/Mobile App.
