PATTAYA: -- The Pattaya police patrolman at the center of abduction and extortion charges has turned himself in to the police station at the resort.

Kittikhun Fonreuang, 30, came with 50,000 baht in cash for his bail, reports Daily News.

When asked about claims of a karaoke girl that she was abducted from the street, extorted from and falsely imprisoned he denied everything saying it had nothing to do with him.

He said he would fight the case. He has been suspended from duty for the time being as a committee of enquiry has been set up to get to the truth of the matter.

Two other men - who were volunteer policemen under Kittikhun's command - called Pana Mekkhla, 26, and Tae (other details unknown) have both fled.

These two men are also facing charges that they raped the woman after she was held at a hotel on the night of October 21st after the alleged abduction and extortion.

Police are now hunting Pana and Tae.

So he's suspended from duty and not dismissed as reported yesterday.

Those reporting or translating stories really need to learn the difference between suspension and dismissal.

He is removed from the civil service....you can interpret that in two ways.

A lot of suspension (till things blow over) and little dismissal. Must be a b*t*h when you cannot trust the serve and protect boys. You just cannot trust anyone anymore even the guy that looks back at you in the mirror in the morning.

He hasn't been tried and found guilty of anything. Haven't even sent any file to the prosecutor's yet.

A police patrolman turns up with 50k ThB cash. Must pay better than we think.

This has all the hallmarks of a go nowhere fast case. And in the meantime, they can't sack him as he hasn't been proved guilty of anything. Wonder if he get's full pay when suspended and is allowed to "pursue other existing interests"?
