I recently started using ilikehd mainly to watch EPL football. I have AIS internet card used only in my mifi on a 30GBpackage for about 850 baht month (it's actually 24gb of 3G and 6of 4G ,the latter I can't use because no 4G in my area) . I got cut off because I'd used up my allowance and had to top up 5Gb twice @ 99 baht each time in the first month and this month  a total of another 25 gb . 10 got used up over a weekend watching several hours of football and tv with the wife watching a bit of you tube also. Next month I'm on 50(40 usable) @ 1288 per month but even this won't last based on experience so far. Factor in 450 baht to ilikehd and it's getting very expensive! There's no cable where I live and AIS is probably the best option reception and speed wise as we have their mast in our garden and can't see any others nearby. Their so called unlimited package slows the speed right down after 24gb so that's no good. In all the posts I've seen praising internet tv none have mentioned this aspect,which puzzles me. I'm interested in any suggestions. I connect my iPad via hdmi adapter to tv although doubt that's relevant. 

I don't know the details of ilikehd, but a size of 700 MB to 1 GB per hour of HD TV (720p) is typical.

If ilikehd supplies even higher resolution the size grows accordingly (more than twice the size for 1080p).

So do your own math.

HD TV over a mobile data package IS bloody expensive.

If possible/acceptable use a smaller resolution.

The same is true for youtube.

Youtube nowadays seems to adapt automatically to the line speed and display resolution.

You/wife can also reduce resolution (to 480p at youtube).

Does your wife watch on smartphone?

Thanks for quantifying and confirming what I'd come to suspect. You don't really get any choice as far as I can ascertain over resolution on ilikehd,though you can tell the difference in picture quality between channels. In some ways it rather defeats the object watching in smeary definition. I'm just surprised that this aspect hasn't cropped up here before unless nearly every one has a truly unlimited cable connection. True vision satellite is the only alternative but showing reruns of matches,especially the late ones the following morning doesn't I understand seem to be a real option. Maybe CTH at 1000 baht monthly wasn't so bad after all? Seems I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place..I really miss my uk sky tv with record facilities etc etc!

 

I'm not using ilikedhd at the moment but I thought you could change the resolution in settings using the Android app from the play store, might depend on platform and which ilikehd you are using as there is more than one out there!

I was in the same position as you and never considered 3G an option due to cost and usage limits. When I knew CTH was going under I installed TOT Winet (cost 15-20K)

You mean there's no cable or no fixed land phone lines where you are? If the latter then you'll have to get used to high mobile data costs or cut back on what you view. If you have a land line to a phone chances are you can get 6-10mpbs ADSL unlimited internet these days which is what most people use as a minimum to consider internet TV as a viable option?

If you don't have access to some fixed line internet access, Fiber, VDSL, ADSL, and you are relegated to relying on a mobile provider, well life sucks.

The truth is video eats bandwidth, best you can do is try to use the lowest possible resolution you can.

 

There is no way around this other than shopping the mobile providers to get the best current deal on GB allowance

Neither cable nor land line phones . Sometimes especially when watching MUTV which seems to have higher definition vs Bein I get freezing/buffering more often,sometimes to the point of being unwatchable,so guess I'm getting the worst of all worlds and face the fact that Internet tv isn't viable for me at this stage. Guess I relook at True visions but as others have said the repeats are endless...ho hum!

My data usage for the last month was approaching 200 GB on my Android TV box and that's not including the Wife on Facebook and the daughter on YouTube. Your assumption on the viability of internet TV using 3G is correct and I can't imagine too many going down this route long term.
