New army recruit at 222cms is not your average Thai!

A new army recruit has been wowing Thai netizens after his picture appeared on Facebook.

By standing at the impressive height of 222 centimeters he dwarfs his commanding officer. While the military don't seem to have found a pair of long pants to fit him yet.

But yesterday it emerged that the new member of the draft is actually a well know volleyball star who has represented Thailand at national level since he was 18.

He was named as Wuthichai Suksala, 21, a native of Surin in the north east of Thailand.

Apparently he is able to smash a volleyball from the height of 350 centimeters and block at 345 centimeters which makes him a very useful player to have in your team.

He appeared on the Facebook page of Siriwan Wongjan earlier in the week before all was revealed by the army.

Keep a kind thought for the  kid. It's not the  problems he will have with clothing ot the fact that he won't fit on  an army cot, let alone be supported by one. Nope. It's the fact that he will not be able to  undertake the same physical exercises the other conscripts will be doing. He may be on a volleyball team, but his joints, spine, feet, and knees  won't be able to carry him on a long march without irreversible damage. He will be lucky to see age 70. Big people's hearts and organs give out early.

The guy is about a useless as tits on a bull with that height in the military, about the only places you could  place him is in the store  or handing out grenade launchers to the red shirts , another comes to mind is cleaning  the top brass vehicles and boots of course he could do the right thing and become a spy for the students,  just one of many I might add...........................................:cheesy:

Agreed, he is too tall for actual service.  He should be given a job that is non-combative in nature; motor pool, mess , replacing basket ball nets.

Let's hope for his sake that someone might notice enough to consider his height and physique could be an asset in specialized areas that won't be as face losing as a photo op with the anomaly of a jolly green giant in Thailand.

Geriatrickid is 100% spot on.

Gigantism and Acromegaly (they are slightly different depending on whether bones and joints fuse abnormally as a child or as an adult) are usually the result of problems stemming from tumours of the pituitary gland, which affects the production of growth hormones (HGH is the most well-known , and is sometimes called i-HGH because it is similar to insulin, if I remember...).

Sufferers often die well before 70. They have an uncomfortable life anyway (try buying size 58 shoes in Thailand or anywhere, or finding a 10-foot bed, or getting a partner), and suffer terrible joint problems which lead to using wheelchairs, braces and crutches. They also have a high incidence of gullet cancer (and other cancers), not to mention heart problems, breathing problems, skin diseases, gappy teeth and about 30 other things which are too numerous to list here. The tallest person ever was 8' 11'' and died at 22

Being very tall is not very funny.

Poor lad is gonna get stuck with lugging the machine gun around!

A friend of mine is half Thai and went into the Army voluntarily when he wasn't drafted. He's about 6'2. Fortunately they found out he spoke English and was computer literate- he ended up as the Company Clerk for his tenure.

The Vietnamese army has found an easy way of dealing with outsize recruits.

They only have one size uniform.

If the uniform doesn't fit you don't get in!

In all seriousness the reason Forces in the real world have min/max height restrictions is to ensure that their workforce remains entirely within the size range of equipment procured by their Govts to enable them to operate effectively. This bloke falls outside that criteria through no fault of his own and would even be entitled to double rations as he exceeds the height requirement where that kicks in (6'8" for Brits if memory serves correct but may have been superceded).

except that the life expectancy of these people is much lower (35-45). but of course that's not a concern for the resident muppets who resort to derogatory or (what they think) funny statements. Thaivisa at its best!

The plain fact that he is being shown at all, show that anything out of the ordinary is the target of jokes and innuendo, and also shows Thailand generally to be discriminatory, it is not this persons fault and the fact he is on the national Volleyball team, goes to show just how bloody stupid the Army is. It may well be a joke perpetrated by the Army on the public but in any event any recruiter would shy away from this person as they would / should know quite well that anything the Army has to offer would not fit, from uniform to beds, and plus he would have to duck or grouse in any building.

Sorry I do not find this amusing , rather sad that the Thai Government allows this be aired at all, in sensitive, and callous in my book. nothing new of course but sad all the same.
