All boats are banned from Balihai pier in Pattaya as of November 1

7_Pattaya.jpg

PATTAYA:-- Beginning on November 1, all boats will not be allowed to dock at Laem Balihai pier in Pattaya.

The ban was issued by Colonel Pob-anan Luangpanuwat, deputy commander of 14th army circle, following a meeting with relevant agencies to solve traffic problem and lack of parking space for cars at Laem Balihai which is a public land.

Boat operators have used tow trucks to bring their motor boats back and forth between the pier and their yards every day. They also park their tow trucks at the pier landing, hence blocking other cars from approaching the pier.

This seems a bit drastic to stop all boats from docking at the pier. I would have thought that they could do something about the parking.

Nice to see some action being taken on long outstanding issues.

Whether it is the right action, I am unqualified to say - but at least it IS action.

this is quite incredible and I've never seen any situation go from normal day-to-day calm to this kind of relentless and speedy pressure.

does anyone know what has prompted this  ? There would have to be some motive

I don't but I read a quote that sort of says never attribute to stupidity what is adequately explained by greed. Of course it could be the aliagnment of the planets.

the navy have an event next november 2017 in pattaya bay and want that space.

no more boats are parked in the bay than usual as i type this................i have a view out of my window.

a binocular scan of the main boat park and a lot of speed boats have been moved.

i will go and have an up close and personal view tomorrow

there will be even less customers now for the automated car park because how many drivers will be prepared to pay to go through the hassle of using that facility when there will be so much free street parking available?

I have a bay view, too, and there seem to be more boats parked in the bay near where the parasail platforms are. Lots of boats parked between the platforms and the shore and more than I am used to seeing this time of the day.

Rich people want the place for themselves.

this is all too easy

- anyone parks their vehicle errantly, gets it pushed off the end of the pier,

which has the double benefit of blocking the harbour from more boats entering

yeah you are correct quite a few at anchor didn't notice them before.

I suspect this is about targetting whichever Mafia collects the informal parking fees from the boats...

Yes, but I think the story may have been written better, I assume there is no issue with boat docking and mooring at the pier, as long as they pay harbour fees.

Just parking and using the slipway, maybe better to charge them 2,000B per boat to use the slipway, and fine them 5,000B if they use the beach as a slip way.

But they should have thought of this some time ago, found a suitable parking area and built a designated slipway.

Another thing to consider is boats and jetski's using the beach, like with the parasols it should be zoned, say every 500m a 20m wide zone that can be used by Jetski's and speed boats, and a 20m wide buoyed channel out to far past the range of swimmers with a speed limit 4 knots.

That would fit very very  well for Pattaya

Precisely.

If you want to truly understand something that puzzles you in Thailand - simply follow the money. The money that is flowing now or that may be flowing in the future :jap:

It's not the boats that are the problem, it's their trailers parked hither and yon and under the overpass.

But the current administration has only been in place for a short while, when Khun Ittipol (spl) spell came to an end a few months back, a government selected city council, or whatever you call them were installed because new elections for Mayor could not be held until a new government is voted for by the Thai people, so where you got that from god only knows.

Well they have done a lot more than the previous administrations... as they say "Rome was not built in a day"

Yes. The new Chinese subs need a place to dock while rusting away

i thought the other articles said parking boats and trailers on the land parking lot was banned.  I guess I missed the part about all boats being banned from docking and by definition mooring at the pier.  I thought the pier was for public use.  It sounds now like over the years people have been using it permanently, living on their boats at night probably, and stuff like that.  So once a gain a perfectly usable pier got abused and now nobody can use it?

The picture is deceptive, there is no in-sea mooring for boats The boat operators tow their boats in to the slipway for launching then leave the tractor and trailers parked all over during the day, taking up all available free parking spaces.

Slow demolition of the largest illegal structure on the waterfront.

went for a look this morning and the speedboats nearly all cleared from both the main boat park and the area on the left of the road under the Pattaya sign. under 20 left to shift by 11.00 this morning.

empty area bigger than you might expect.

also gone and the shops/stalls/shacks being knocked down the fish/asstd seafood vendors who had been opposite the auto car park for years
