BANGKOK — Thammasat University has banned celebratory signs reading “congratulations” or any other festive messages for their Saturday and Sunday graduation practice and ceremony on Nov. 12 and 13.

Three weeks into a month-long period of mourning for His Majesty the Late King, Thammasat Monday enacted the strictest of measures taken by universities seeking to balance a normally exuberant time with social expectations by banning flowers and other overt expressions of joy at graduation ceremonies.

A major step in the formation of the rest of their lives but don't celebrate or enjoy it.

I'm not suggesting an all singing, all dancing extravaganza but something remotely reflecting a celebration, which it is,  would do.

This is way Over The Top. I suspect the late King would want the next generation of professionals, civil servants and leaders etc to savour their big day which is supposed to benefit the country too.

Maybe he was but govt after govt wasn't, isn't and won't be as an uneducated population suits their needs just fine.

I thought it strange that the ceremony is still going ahead. College grad ceremonies in Chian Rai and Udon have been cancelled according to a friend who travelled there to see the daughter graduate

Some of the students in the photograph seem insufficiently sad, what's the number for dial-a-mob?

This month Thailand v Australia World Cup qualifier. No cheering. No celebrating goals. No chanting. No music. No banners. Mourning attire to be worn. This is a comment not an opinion.
