Import duties on medical equipment

Featured Replies

I've ordered medical equipment from the states a cpap machine at a fraction of the cost they are here and paid $370

A few questions, what might the import fees be and am I Better off putting in the girl friends name?

If you already ordered a bit late to be asking - but if not did you make sure it can operate on 50Hz power?  Many things for US market are 60Hz only as often a bit cheaper to make.

Good - just that it is often kind of hard to find information on US sites and for some things this can be an important consideration - know the Hydrofloss (water floss unit) for US market uses entirely different motor than that sold in Europe but suspect most people may not travel with them.

Would you be willing to update on your import of CPAP?

As there is a very wide difference in price between  same

machine in USA and Thailand it would be nice to know.

Some (all?) sellers in US require a prescription. Also importers

of medical equipment in Thailand require a license. Of course

option is to have someone bring it in. Most US warranties are

not valid here. Also some licensed distributors may refuse to service.

Hope your unit made it without undue fuss.

Duty should be 1% +7% VAT

But for medical equipment you need an import license.

I got my CPAP humidifier through customs in Nong Khai as spare part.

Hi,  I am from the UK. My REMstar CPAP machine has just died and my UK hospital has issued me replacement one, free of charge, which my daughter is going to post to me in Thailand.

We plan to mark the package  " Replacement Prescription Item, No commercial value", which I think is true & correct.

I understand that import duties into Thailand can be a bit high. Does anyone have any experience on how this package might be treated.

Thanks

JH
