China displays J-20 stealth jet at country’s biggest air show

ZHUHAI: -- China has shown off its much-anticipated J-20 stealth fighter in public for the first time. The new plane took to the skies at Airshow China, the country’s biggest meeting of aircraft makers and buyers.

Two of the J-20 jets swept over the audience at the show in the southern city of Zhuhai, in Guangdong province.

Experts say China has been refining designs for the fighter plane in the hope of narrowing a military technology gap with the United States.

Some analysts said the plane’s brief appearance answered few questions, for instance over its ability to dodge radar in the same way as its closest American rivals.

But at least one commentator said the display demonstrated a lot of Chinese confidence in showing off weapons that were not yet in full service.

Firms from the world over are exhibiting at the meeting, but the hosts are grabbing most of the interest.

The event is seen as Beijing’s shop window for its defence ambitions, as well as showing off its know-how in civil aerospace.

It is thought China will overtake the US as the world’s top aviation market in the next decade.

Stolen F-22 design and NRFC-Not Ready For Combat. Their F-35 steal isn't ready yet although I laugh at their failure to see the F-35 is a failure.

Should be a good fit for their "stealth" aircraft carrier ?

Most likely just a kit...like the Chinese "Ferraris" one can buy online for a few thousand dollars with a lawmower engine and Ferrari body panels...probably a Mig-21 engine with obviously copied from magazine pictures F-22 body panels .  If I was in the Chinese Air Force, I'd be embarrassed to let such an obvious copy out in public.

Meanwhile, from 13 miles offshore (or maybe 100 miles), I'm sure American spy planes were tracking the stealthy plane on radar...  And having a chuckle.

I've read this new plane is pretty good. Not a match for what the US has, but way better than its nearby neighbors. It's a big deal. And with what Russia is doing,  may start another arms race. Sadly.

How China's stealthy new J-20 fighter jet compares to the US's F-22 and F-35

Even if the new aircraft is technologically on par with top US aircraft, it is doubtful that it has achieved anything nearing operational status. Even if it was in operational service, it would only be as good as those flying it. The PRC got a whole lot of catching up to do in order to reach the US level of military experience.

You sound like an expert on 'Maginot Line' technology and tactics.

We'll get the last laugh when Mother Nature humbles their barely-above-sea-level fortresses.  One really good storm and they'll have to start all over.

They'll own you well before that happens. :partytime2:

In 1933, another Asian power feeling its oats thumbed its nose at the League of Nations and went on doing what it was doing- against the world.  The west, led by the USA tightened trade to the point where they couldn't do it any more.  8 years later, it came to war.  That didn't work out so well for that Asian power.

Funny that China played pretty much the exact opposite role back then.  Other than reversed roles, there's a sense of deja vu in the air.

They've done an amazing job of advancing from a virtual stone age with the trail already blazed, supercomputers and filched technology- getting to where the USA was when all we had was slide rules.  If they want to own us, the tough work starts when they have to actually develop something more advanced.  Otherwise, they have nothing but numbers and that didn't work out too well for them in the human waves in Korea.

History will repeat itself (usually does), and the next storm will humble them.

Doesn't really matter if the air and ground arsenal doesn't work. They have nukes and the next big one will be good night for us all!
