Watch out for super-moon phenomenon on the night of Loy Krathong November 14

BANGKOK: -- Mark November 14 in your calendar or in your smartphone so that you don’t miss once in a life-time experience when the Moon will be the closest to the Earth, the biggest and brightest in nearly 70 years.

The Moon will appear up to 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than an average full moon. This is the closest the Moon will get to Earth until November 25, 2034.

As explained by NASA, because the Moon has an elliptical orbit, one side called the perigee is about 48,280 km close to Earth than the other side called the apogee.

When the Earth-Moon-Sun system lines up with the perigee side of the Moon facing Earth and the Moon appears to be on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun, we get what is called a perigee-syzgy that causes the Moon to appear much bigger and brighter than usual and it is referred to as a super-moon or, technically, a perigee moon.

I like the scientific explanation of the phenomenon but TIT.. Bring out the voodoo stuff..

Why are you guys mocking this?

I read about it a few weeks ago somewhere else.

This is supposed to be the biggest supermoon in living memory.  A simple search on Google will reveal lots of articles on it.

I am really looking forward to seeing it.

The biggest super moon in history was on Pattaya beach one summers night last year. Bye gum was it a sight for sore eyes!

In November full moonshine, Loy Krathong Loy Krathong.....

Ah , now I know why all the bars and gin joints in all of Thailand are back to normal on the 14th , it is Loy Kaboom again .

Don't get it, the earth is between the moon and the sun, must the moon not be invisible then (dark)?

Thank you NASA for explaining what we know since a few centuries already.

Thai version of Chicken Little  "the moon is falling, the moon is falling"

No claims yet from the govt,  especially the Minister of Tourism,  that they arranged this ?

Moon is 14% larger, which will create a 74.3% increase on toursim.

Don't worry, the Moon will not look any bigger to the naked eye. Mars will never look as big as the moon either, due to

its distance from Earth. Just a news story that is much about nothing.

Geezer

They are mulling postponing it until a more suitable time...

No, that's called a lunar eclipse

Happens only when the earth is exactly between sun and moon any other couple of years.

The orbits of earth and moon are "tilted" against each other.

Give them time, they have only known about it for the last 20/ 30 years, they are currently preparing - Thai, the hub of super moons.

It will also speed up as it gets closer to Earth and slow down as it moves away, bet you did not know that...
