Yingluck buys rice from farmers in Ubon Ratchathani

BANGKOK: -- Former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra visited Ubon Ratchathani to buy rice directly from farmers for reselling in Bangkok.

Her aides said she planned to buy about two or three tonnes of rice directly from farmers in both milled and paddy rice.

For the paddy rice, she planned to have it milled for reselling in Bangkok.

How much is she paying?

And does she consider it a donation so it will be a tax deduction?

Seem a worthy idea. If the 1,500+ generals with all their wealth will buy 1-2 tons for their extended families, it will help the poor farmers.

Did she actually buy it from them or did she PLEDGE to pay them?

"Yingluck said she decided to visit Ubon Ratchathani because she felt sorry for farmers after the prices had fallen to the lowest level in a decade. "

The good lady is all heart, let's hope she is able to tour the provinces buying tons more for her Bangkok customers.

Am I the only one who's skepticism meter is bending the dial?

I wonder if she bought the rice at 20% above current market prices, and if so, how she intends to run a profit reselling it. Did she actually pay in cash or did she merely hand I.O.U. notes to those farmers, promising that they'd get their money within a few months?

I mean, she's been there, done that, so she should know exactly how it works...

And what's her profit margin?

Or in other words does she end up with a handsome profit and the poor farmers make just a few Baht over their costs?

The last action of a scoundrel.

Brilliant!

Wasn't direct purchase just advocated by the ptb?

Oh the irony.

Maybe the seller will have his/her foot on the scales.

it will be delivered back to a government storage facility were it will be paid for again with tax payers money - not unusual for her

Close, but no coconut:

I know of someone in Thailand who thinks of themselves as the nations greatest patriot (and never gets tired of telling people that), but it's not Ms S.

Wouldnt that be fun if she do that just to unhinge you.

It is a hoot how the haters get their collective panties in a bunch over a woman doing something nice for the people.

But then that would be the same crowd who loves a good coup.

Suck it up people. Yingluck was popular as PM and she still is popular today. Even if you think that it is nothing more than a publicity stunt, you ought to recognize that is a darn good publicity stunt.

The regime that hijacked Thailand should pay attention to that too, and be careful how they inflict their vengeance on her... It could blow up in their clown-painted faces...

Or send that same rice to people who are starving, which is in the news constantly.

I bought mine from Tesco yesterday does that help???:coffee1:

I think the government will quickly invoke article 44 to block her bank account so she cannot pay.

And then they use it for rhetoric to show she never wanted to pay.

A pledge is a promise to buy/pay.

I'm sure you can track her to make sure she does it. Please send detailed report back to us at Thai Visa.

This is very important. Thank you 007.

She can give it away free she will have paid (if the cupboard is not bare) 35 billion for storage rice. It should belong to her she is paying for it. She could include pig farming in with mushrooms as I am sure pigs love rotten rice.

Naive in the extreme.

Yes, a good publicity stunt. Others were already suggesting farmers sell direct. So hurry up Yingluck, get on the bandwagon and don't forget a few tears and blubbing about being skint and not able to pay your fine.

Remember a short while back she flew to China to meet her criminal brother whose currently fleeing from justice? During the publicity she was photographed buying 35 new pearl necklaces. No one ever disclosed if she paid the correct customs duty on her return but if she's so skint and worried and wants to do something nice, why not sell those and buy rice from poor farmers with the proceeds?

Yingluck may be many things but there is no way anyone could ever excuse her of being a patriot. Not even in the slightest.

Of course she paid them a premium - the famous Shin altruism and generosity knows no bounds.

She will sell it at a small profit as it's all being funded by a generous overseas philanthropist whose shyness dictates his identity is kept secret.

I am sure they will try to get that money back once they are back in power. Maybe try to stop the 35 billion claim or something like that. This is just a small investment but for a change they bought votes with their own money instead of government money.

I thought she was going to distribute it to the poor and needy  but then again GREED IS IN THEIR BLOOD?
