Validity period for passport for an on arrival visitor

I have a friend coming next year for the Water Festival. His passport will expire in June, but he will only stay for total 14 days here. Will he need to get a new passport to come here or can he use the old passport for Thailand Entry having 2.5 months left before it expires?

For those from most countries that qualify for a visa exempt entry the passport only has to be valid for the length of stay allowed. But some airlines will not let people board their flight unless their is 6 months of validity remaining on the passport.

It would be best if he got a new passport before making the trip.

Thanks ubonjoe as usual. Yeah that would be a terrible shock if the day came and he was denied getting on the plane to come here missing the whole festival due to something that could have been avoided.. OUCH! Common sense as I thought, so will tell him to renew
