Maybe I just got a lemon? After I bought it, I wasn't able to play movies from an external hard drive. The hard drive works fine with a Samsung and a TCL TV.  Next I found that the WiFi receiver wasn't compatible. I needed a Sony WiFi receiver at five or six times the cost of generic. I found that the format for the hard drive wasn't compatible. I had to re-format that hard drive and then put the movies back on it. The Bravia then would play about three out of four movies.

I should mention that the Sony is in the bedroom of my condo. I live upcountry and trips to the condo are few. The TV was not often used. Finally the picture disappeared and there was just a few lines across the bottom of the screen. The local repairman recommended that Sony repair it. The TV ended up in Bangkok and I was given a price of 8,000 baht to repair it. I bought a 32 inch Samsung for 7,400 baht. It plays everything without problems.

It appears that Sony is making everything proprietary. Has anyone else had bad luck with the Bravia TV? I think I'm finished with Sony products.

I also have a spare Sony Bravia 32 inch. It cost me 55,000THB back in 2006 and now can hardly see the picture on it, washed out to almost white color in places. Only has video in ports, so need extra device to attach hard drives, live streams etc. The picture quality is such rubbish tho I will never buy another Sony.

I also am reluctant to buy anything Samsung as I don't want my condo burning down. I am surprised they haven't gone on a media offensive explaining exactly why their phones and their washing machines blow up and what they've done to rectify it. Bringing out new products without explaining why others failed hardly good for customer confidence is it?

I'm no Samsung fanboy for sure. I was looking for a TCL TV but couldn't find what I wanted. I ended up with the 32 inch Samsung because it was attractively discounted.

I was a Samsung phone lover. I say WAS. I still have an old S3 that still works fine after replacing the touch screen. The next one was an S4. The main board failed. Thinking it was a fluke, I bought another S4 and that mainboard also failed. Still not having learned my lesson, I bought my wife an S5. Shortly after the warranty ran out, that mainboard also failed. A TukCom repair shop told me the phone wasn't worth repairing. Samsung wanted 7,000 baht to replace the main board. No more Sony TV's and no more Samsung phones for me.

We have an old Bravia 32 or 36" up in the master bed room, must be over 6-7 years old by now, still works like a charm.

When our 51" Samsung died after app 2.5 years use, the good old Bravia was dragged downstairs for use in the living room until we bought a new 55" TCL. The Sammy plasma developed vertical stripes after only 1.5 years use, very disappointed with it.

The Sony is now back upstairs for bed room duties.

I really think it's pure luck how long time your TV is gonna last, nothing else, some have good/bad experiences with this and that brand.

Okay Samsung TV service is pretty good, we called them and they showed up at our house 3 days later and quickly pinpointed the 2 problems with the TV, but it was so expensive to repair it was not wort doing (1/2 of the price of new price), so I binned after I unsuccessfully tried to sell it (Plasma TV and not working, no thanks, ha-ha).

I have a fourteen year old Hitachi 28 inch. It is the old tube type and it weighs a ton. It still works like a charm. It has many more hours on it than the Sony Bravia had.
