Changing ED to O?

Featured Replies

Haven't found anything on this topic.
I'm currently studying in Thailand on a Non Imm ED visa, which is about to be extended for another 6 months after 1 year of studies.
However, I'm considering retiring here as I turn 50 within 4 months time.
- can I change the ED to an O visa without leaving the country?

- the ED visa would get me through to May, which is past my birthday. When should I start the process to obtain an O visa?
Thanks for any advice you might have.

You cannot change non immigrant visa categories but you can change the reason for your extension based upon attending school to retirement.

You can change the reason for your extension as soon as you meet the financial requirements for the extension on or after your birthday.

You will need a letter from the school stating you have ended your studies so that your current extension can be cancelled and do the application for the new one.

Thanks, ubonjoe. That's what I needed to know.
