Government urged to find out truth about Yingluck's rice purchase in Ubon Ratchathani

BANGKOK: -- Former Democrat MP Warong Dechgitvigrom urged the government to investigate whether the event last Friday in Ubon Ratchathani when former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra reportedly bought rice from farmers at an average of 20 baht/kg was staged with an intention to discredit and destabilise the government.

In the statement posted in his Facebook page, Warong said the government must find out the truth about the event and then clarify to the people so that confidence in the Hom Mali rice market will be restored.

The Democrat said he was told by Ubon Ratchani residents that the event was staged because, in the following day after Ms Yingluck’s visit of the farmers, they went to the same venue in order to buy rice from farmers and there were no farmers there to sell rice.

On the claim by Ms Yingluck that she bought 10 tonnes of rice from farmers and her former Pheu Thai MPs who accompanied her bought another 10 tonnes, he said that they definitely did not buy directly from farmers because the packaging appeared to be the type used by big rice millers for distributing to their customers locally and abroad.

Selling rice at 20 baht/kg while the market prices range from 30-35 baht/kg amounts to “cold-blooded” price suppression, said Warong. Citing Ms Yingluck’s claim in her Facebook that the rice she bought from farmers was not graded was impossible because farmers didn’t normally grade their rice.

These people are really terrified of Yingluk.  Yingluk eats noodles let have an investigation.  Geez there are far more important things to concentrate on than Yingluk giving her 100% of your concentration will only make her stronger amongst the people.

A very clever political ploy which will boost her popularity immensely.  She will be seen to be trying to assist the poor farmers.

Surprisingly, no.... all of the locals I have talked to see it as a joke.

Maybe the govt is just cashing in on the "punchline"

:shock1:  :sorry:

Rice don't need no price fixation

Rice don't need no price control

No dark mechanics in the boardroom

Idiots, leave the rice alone

How long before making Big Too look stupid becomes a crime?

Given a level playing field, any politician worth their salt can outsmart ole soldier boy. While he may have the advantage when it comes to guns, when engaged in a battle of wits against "that damn woman" , he's not in the same league.

The government is the punchline. These clowns have been chasing their tales for almost 3 years worring about Thaksin, Yingluck and anyone else, even their own shadows who they see as the slightest threat to their troughs.

Tesco Lotus online is currently offering bagged milled 35% moisture rice at 20 baht/kg. - a 1 baht discount from their regular price. Like the government Yingluck is actually overpaying for paddy rice.

Yingluk bought rice for 20 baht per kg from the north east and took it too BKK and sold it for 20 baht per kg.

Publicity stunt? sure,  illegal?  no. are the Dem's p*ssed they didn't think of doing it first?   to bloody right.

So instead of crying about Yingluk, get off your ass and do somthing that will make the Dem's look good, what a fruit cake.

Here's a hit for the Dem's and the junta, go one better than Yingluk and every Democrat MP go out and do the same thing but not 10 tonns of rice, try 100 tonn of rice then every member of the junta same thing, the winners will be the farmers......

I'm not sure that this has anything to do with the Democrat-Party who, like PTP and all the others, are currently out of politics ?

But certainly all ex-MPs should be helping their local farmers to bypass the millers & middlemen, and selling milled-rice direct to the public, at a fair price to both. It's a good idea, which should be extended, Thais helping other Thais in difficult times !

The military government are of course already doing their bit, trying to shift the massive warehoused-stocks of old rice, before it becomes totally useless for consumption, they've been at that task for two-and-a-half years and it's not over yet.  Which is one factor depressing local/world market-prices.

35% moisture isn't that too high? I thought it should be around 10%?

Reminds me of the Trump stump speech from the other day. Someone yells "gun" the SS hustles him to safety and his son tweets "Assassination attempt against my father" Just another version of the Spanish "Running of the BS"

She can't get much more popular than she is already. That's why the Dems are taking pot shots at her. They crave her popularity.

Lies according to this account, she did not buy the rice from poor farmers, just another scam:
http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/warong-says-yinglucks-rice-sale-just-a-setup/

Just like last time round, she's not helping poor farmers (who were not even part of the previous program) rather, enriching Thaksin connected millers. Millers who have been colluding to drive rice prices down further to sickly take advantage of poor farmers and Yingluck similarly sickly using poor farmers to take advantage of a manufactured, cynical political opportunity. To which Shin-shills on here equally sickeningly defend, approve and applaud away.

So you completely missed out (probably intentionally) on Thaivisa that Yingluck bought the rice from a group of farmers who decide to mill themselves and not sell to millers who consistently take advantage of them. Poor junta hugger who keep defending the indefensible.

"with an intention to discredit and destabilise the government."

Most grown ups would just commend the lady for her extremely well played parley .  She caught them completely off guard. She has out maneuvered them.  Might does not make right and she just proved it.
