Russia ready to restore relations with US, says Vladimir Putin

MOSCOW: -- Russian president Vladimir Putin was among the first world leaders to congratulate Donald Trump on his victory.

At a ceremony at the Kremlin this morning, he said he was certain a constructive dialogue between Moscow and Washington would serve the interests of both countries.

“During the election campaign, we heard Donald Trump’s speeches, which focused on rebuilding the relationship between Russia and the United States. We understand and are aware that it is not going to be easy given the degraded state of relations between Russia and the US at the moment, unfortunately.

But Russia is ready and willing to restore fully fledged bilateral relations with the United States, because it will have a positive effect on global affairs in general, taking into account the special responsibility of Russia and the US to sustain global security and stability,” said Putin.

Trump, who has expressed admiration for the Russian president, has promised to warm relations with Russia that have chilled over Russia’s intervention in Syria, its seizure of Crimea and allegations of Russian cyber attacks during the US election campaign.

Simpletons trot out the Putin & Trump dream team slogan. Ribbentrop and  Stalin made a great team too, didn't they?  Putin  meddled in the US electoral process and Trump was more than happy to   co-operate with the commies. Ever seen the Manchurian candidate? Well, the USA   just elected him.

A Putin Advisor Just Admitted Putin Hacked The DNC To Help Trump.

Trump isn't a dictator.  He can't just do anything he wants.  With this revelation, it's going to be hard to normalize relations.

The best step for better relations would be for Russia to not meddle in other nations elections.  That's a serious deal.  And won't be forgotten soon.

Talk about war mongering.

The first fruits of the upcoming Trump presidency...and end to the unnecessary demonization of Russia and its leader Vladimir Putin. This is one of the sorriest legacies of the Obama-Hillary (egged on by the neo-liberal commentariet in the think-tanks and the press) foreign policy and has brought great harm to people throughout the world. It started years before with NATO's expansion up to Russias border and has contined in subsequent administrations. The putting of relations witb Russia back on a stable even keel alone justifies the people's faith in a Trump presidency.

Just like Reagan did with Gorbachev. The Clintons wanted war with Russia. Trump wants to work WITH the Russians.  The Neocons would have destroyed the world.

Okay, Reagan didn't make nice with Gorbachev. The Soviet Union was outspent in the cold war, broke and the old guard had died off. This brought both parties to the table. Why would the Clintons want war with the Russians? She barely mentioned Russia except in reference to their support of Donald Trump.

It's not the Clinton's per say...but the whole foreign policy group-think of which they are apart and it extends to Republicans as well (sans a few like Trump). Unnecessary antagonism and belicosity in policy towards Russia and not recognizing that it, as a large continental nation-state has legitimate economic, political, and national security interest of its own that should be acknowledged.

Unsubstantiated story. Your links quote each other and it is a "perhaps" story from the Guardian. Please help establishing this as fact otherwise it is rumor. Can't imagine they would ever own up to this if true

You could reverse that statement and make it apply to Russia also.  Relations are a two way street.  Russia's recent canceling of the nuclear disarmament agreement didn't help things.  Plus the one about research.

So what he they did...it exposed the corruption of the Democratic Party and venality of the Clinton machine and had a part in saving the nation from the grasp of Hillary and her evil cabal. We should all be sending him "Thank You" notes.

The Clintons almost started World War III with the Russians at Pristina. " But General Clark's plan was blocked by General Sir Mike Jackson, K-For's British commander. "I'm not going to start the Third World War for you," he reportedly told General Clark during one heated exchange." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/671495.stm

I suggest you do a little more in depth study of US-Russian relations, and how a great WWII ally was turned into our great enemy within a couple years and the people and interests behind the change and why such an agressive posture was maintained for 50 years. Believe me, the provocations, insults, and agressions have come 90% from the American side.

Messing about in other countries politics is exactly what many rant about.  Yet when it's done to your favor, you are OK with it?

Sorry, don't agree with your analysis.  So you are saying the Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova invasions are OK?  Not aggressive?  Nor the threats to the Baltics?  Incursions into foreign countries airspace, etc, etc, etc.

Did the US hack the Russian parties systems?  Perhaps, but the details were never made public.

The US can hardly complain as its been doing the same for decades. And if Hillary or the Dems have a problem with it, buy some security software with some of her Saudi millions.

Russia or actually Putin is not pro-Trump. Russia has it's own agenda. Russia is against western values, unity and stronghold it offers to the west.

Putin will continue on this path. Soon Putin's resources, the troll factories etc. will start publishing propaganda against Trump. Wikileaks will start leaking documents about Trump's past. The folks who now think wikileaks is the hero or the good guy, will be strongly against Julian Assange and his anti-west agenda.

At that time, the reality what Russia has been doing all along should be clear to everybody. Wait and see.

Putin talks peace - his actions say otherwise, I doubt very much Trump will be the push over Obama was, you are naïve if you actually believe any of this very public rhetoric

Oh and for the record, Russia ended up not much better than Nazi Germany when ww11 ended, the west just didn't have the stomach to challenge them.....remember the USSR

Oh and the US did not invade the countries you mentioned above, they assisted when the communists started war mongering, other conflicts they have been involved in were all with good intent to liberate from oppression but it hasn't always worked

Fortunately Americans have seen sense and not elected that war monger Clinton.

Putin and Trump i think will try to work together for World peace.

Do you not mean a piece of the World?

This is wrong on so many levels. First off, the Clintons didn't want war with Russia. Second Putin and Gorbachev couldn't have less in common. Gorbachev made it a goal of his to end the cold war and bring change to Russia. Putin is a throwback who rules by force and intimidation.

I would note that this is OccupyDemocrats - famous for fiction. This isn't even a quote from a news source, just an article they made up all on their own. So absolutely no credibility except as satire.
