My girlfriend confronted a snake this Morning in our house that slid away. I didn't see it however and know only a few things about snakes. I used to get a lot of scorpions in one of my old houses in the Kingdom, but this is the first snake in the best part of a decade.

She described it as around a metre long, smallish head, quite thick at around 3-4cm in diameter, round eyes and the colour was a light almost creamy brown with no pattern as such. Funnily enough she was saying 'man na-raak' but looks can be deceiving. I showed her some pics of common snakes in Thailand and none of them really matched, but we came across something that she said it looked very similar to, and that was an Australian Taipan snake.. which I read are very venomous but not native to this country? Any help from TV members?

Ngoo cin?

That was the closest to common Thai snakes, but she said the eyes were totally black and Ngoo Cin seems to have a visible pupil; also the snake did not have the same skin, Ngoo Cin seems to have pattern or texture more than what she saw. After looking at common Thai snakes I am wondering if this was a pet or something. The closest we have come to it is a Taipan

I sure hope it was not a Taipan. Bad enough with the cobras, vipers, kraits and other nasty critters here. My Oz friends describe taipan as Mr. Two-step.

Why do they refer to it as Two-step? Because of the way it slithers?? My gf said it slowly slid away from left to right. I really hope it is not a Taipan as well, I have been reading up on them and they are no joke

They call it a 2 step becuase if bitten by one it is about how many steps you can take before dropping down dead.

I would say it is as close to impossible as you could get for it to be a Taipan, which are not native to South East Asia. Snakes even of a same breed often have a multitude of shapes and sizes and they are often difficult to identify even to experienced herpes. Cobras, kraits etc are fairly rare, it is much more likely to be some kind of rat snake, grass snake, vine snake or other non venoumous variety. I would not be concerned about it.

lol that makes sense, the 2 step reference I mean. Yeah I know very little about species of snake, I just found it weird that it didn't look anything like the common snakes found in this country. I haven't come across any kinds of snake in my house or hotel in 7 years, so it just kind of caught me off guard a bit
