After having it for a couple of months I finally released my Paradise Tree snake back into the wild. I bought him/it from one of the dismal pet stores in JJ market. It was the only snake of its kind housed in a tank packed with large constrictors. I have had these snakes in the garden before, and bought it with the intention of releasing it after a short time. I figured I could give it a better time than it might have elsewhere.

I read on the net that they make poor pets as they can be aggressive. When I first got him he was quite docile and could be handled, although I only had him out half a dozen times over four weeks as I don’t think it’s good for a wild snake.

I went away for a few weeks and my wife fed him whilst I was away. When I came back I found him to be extremely aggressive. It is probably the most energetically aggressive snake I have ever seen. Not unlike the snakes on the movie ‘Snakes on a Plane’. He is now also twice the size as when I left him. I see this all as been a sign of good health.

We took him up into a wooded area today and let him go. Hopefully as long as he doesn’t bump into a local and get beat across the head he will have a good life back in the wild.

I wondered if anyone else has ever kept one of these snakes as a pet.

Or someone else will be buying him again next week, only double the price because he is bigger and fatter than last time.

I did this last xmas, did not buy one, caught one on our front gate, kept it for a couple of weeks until we were heading up north then released it in an isolated area of forest on a lake.

I have one in my garden which when approached springs up into the trees hence the term "flying snake" of which group they belong to. I managed to get a pic recently. I don't think they make good pets and you were right to release it. :opost-19662-1165199360_thumb.jpg

Beautiful shot baabaabobo, I had one of these 'run' away from me the other day, not aggressive at all, I guess it had somewhere to run to though

is a great shot baaba

The best part of the shot is the body language of the woman in the background. Any guesses what she is thinking? :o

I have a house in the very end corner of my mooban. Two sides of my house are bordering with farmland. Over the 6 years i spend here, I've seen several snakes in my garden and even in my kitchen. My wife is not so happy about it but i love it. Most of them are brown colored but we have the occasional green one.

I have also a couple of cats and they usually catch young snakes in the garden and bring them in the house to "play". Some of them are the python type.

Also do not want to keep something like that as a pet. Recently also gave up my aquarium and feel good about it...
