"Post truth" OUP's word of the year

Never knew we had entered the realm of "word of the year" but this new adjective is interesting for its literal lexical meaning, short etymological history and really what is endeavors to allude to.

Defined by the [OUP] dictionary as an adjective “relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief”

I can see its application in days after the new American president elect has been decided. The irony cannot be lost in Mr Trump's victory nor the consequential determining core and non core election promises. But also I feel there are numerous other applications for this term in  our social media driven, emotive world that has different logical sensibilities prevailing at times.

I think acceptance of this new adjective highlights how narratives have moved. Age might have something to do with perspectives on this.
