Where's the moon?

Featured Replies

So we had the big full moon during loy krathong. The day after there was no moon at all. Next day he was back and still full...yesterday there was no moon to be seen.

How long will he be playing this hide and seek game?

The clouds are at night as well.

Out here in rural Khampaeng Phet the moon rose around 8pm last night in a beautiful starry sky and hadn't set at 5.30 am this morning. It was nice and cool too at 20C.

The Moon today is in a Waning Gibbous Phase. This is the first phase after the Full Moon occurs. It lasts roughly 7 days with the Moon's illumination growing smaller each day until the Moon becomes a Last Quarter Moon with a illumination of 50%.

It was still visible the day after the full moon, just rising and setting later. This morning, it was high and still visible in the west at 8 AM, well after sunrise but faded as the atmospheric haze and sunlight intensified before setting around 9:45 AM . It will rise at 9.45 PM tonight.

So far the moon was quite reliable.

But compared to the sun it's a beast.

It's rising times shift about an hour per day around the full moon day.
