Dec 5th Foundation arranges mass ordination to celebrate HM the King’s birthday anniversary

The December the Fifth Foundation arranged a mass ordination to celebrate His Majesty the King’s birthday anniversary this year. 80 candidates for the Buddhist priesthood travelled by cars provided by the Royal Thai Air Force from Sanam Luang to attend the mass ordination at Wat Sa Ket (วัดสระเกศ). There were a lot of candidates’ guests joining the rite presided over by Chief Monk of Wat Sa Ket. The number of the candidates which is 80 coincides with HM the King’s 80th birthday anniversary next year.

After the ordination, th new monks will stay at Wat Yannawa (วัดยานนาวา) in Sathorn (สาธร) District for nine days, starting from December 3 to December 11.

All Thais invited to join grand ceremony on HM the King’s birthday celebration at Sanam Laung

Charin Suankaew (จรินทร์ สวนแก้ว), President of an organizing committee for the ceremony of His Majesty the King’s 79th birthday anniversary which is going to take place at Sanam Luang during 2-6 December, invites all Thais to join the events to commemorate this auspicious occasion of the year.

In the morning of December 5, 580 monks will receive alms at Sanam Luang, followed by a procession of 2,000 volunteer people who will walk from the Royal Plaza to Chitralada Palace. At 8.00 a.m., a group of senior people aged 80 will come to join the celebration.

In the evening of the same day, the organizing committee will distribute one million candles which have passed consecrating ceremony at Chanasongkram Monasteries, to well-wishers along both sides of the Ratchadamnoen Road.

The people will be encouraged to light the candle when HM the King and the royal family travel back in the royal motorcade from the Grand Palace where they attend religious rites, to Chitralada Palace.

Dress parade held to celebrate Thai King's birthday

A once-for-a-year dress parade was held Saturday in Bangkok to celebrate Thai King Bhumipol Adulyadej 's 79th birthday, which is Dec. 5, also the National Day of Thailand.

The Royal Guards, led by the Thai Royal Armed Forces Supreme Commander and the commanders-in-chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air forces, swore loyalty to the King, accompanied by Queen Sirikit, on an oath-taking ceremony, started at around 5:15 p.m. local time (1015 GMT).

The King inspected the thousands of troops dressed in colorful ceremonial uniforms in the one-hour-long parade, and gave a speech in which he called on the military men to devotedly carry out their born duties to safeguard national unity and stability.

The monarch would have his 79th birthday on Dec. 5, 2006, the year that also marks the 60th anniversary of the King's accession to the throne. A series of grand celebrations have been held around the country.

The King enjoyed high respect among Thai people. The news of his suffering some bruises and injuries from a slip earlier this year have attracted public concern for his health.

Country gears up for HM's birthday

People across the country are to celebrate His Majesty the King's 79th birthday tomorrow as the international media reports the event around the world.

The December the Fifth Foundation yesterday arranged a mass ordination of 80 monks at Wat Sa Ket to mark the royal birthday. The 80 candidates for the Buddhist priesthood include soldiers, police officers and civil servants.

The National Council of Women invited 109 monks from across the country to pray and meditate to bless His Majesty.

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the military have invited people aged 80 to sign well-wishing books for the King at Sanam Suapa and Chitrada Palace tomorrow.

In the provinces, over 10,000 Si Sa Ket people took part in a marathon walk to mark the royal anniversary, while 6,000 Nong Khai residents set off on a mini-marathon held by the local administration.

In Chiang Mai, provincial deputy governor Kritsadaporn Siemphakdee launched a cycling marathon in which riders were racing 700 kilometres to Bangkok. They included British cyclist Alan Bate, 40, who aimed to make the ride in 26 hours and arrive at Sanam Luang by 8am today for a ceremony in honour of His Majesty.

In Uttaradit, about 500 women were ordained as nuns in honour of the King.

Agence France-Presse reported that His Majesty was the world's longest-reigning monarch and that millions of Thais honoured him every Monday by wearing shirts of yellow, the colour Thais associate with Monday - the day the King was born.

Time magazine last month described His Majesty as "an inspiration" in naming him one of their Asian heroes.

Chumporn elementary students grow mangrove forest to celebrate HM the King's 79th birthday anniversary

Today (November 4) 280 sixth grade students from the Chumporn Elementary School will be planting mangrove trees at a public field in the Koh Chumporn (เกาะชุมพร) National Park, Tambon Had Sairee (หาดทรายรี), Muang District, to celebrate His Majesty the King’s 79 birthday anniversary.

Charnwit Yikusang (ชาญวิทย์ ยิกุสังข์), Director of the Chumporn Elementary School, said the school has carried out the mangrove forest growing activity for twelve years. The objective of the project is create understanding amongst students in realizing the importance of mangrove forest, one of the most important factord of marine ecological systems. Both small leaf and big leaf mangrove plants have been grown this year.

Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej reviews the honor guard as a part of the celebration to commemorate his 79th birthday at the Royal Plaza in Bangkok.

Thailand's King called on Thais to unite following a bloodless coup in September, and told soldiers that they needed to remain honest after their takeover.

I'm foreign, but I visited Thailand many times and I can say it's the best place and the best people I ever met! I love and respect thai people, and I love and respect their King and Queen even more, because I know They are very good for thai people.

Over two million marine animals were set free on the occasion of HM the King’s birthday

At tambon Ao Yai in Muang district of Trat province, Trat Governor Boonchuay Kerdsukhon presided over a ceremony to release over two million marine animals into the sea on the occasion of His Majesty the King’s 79th birthday yesterday (Dec 5). The ceremony was attended by state officials, members of the public, and students.

Mr. Boonchuay said this event helped safeguard the natural resources, and the nearby communities would have rich food resources as well. In addition, this activity also made people help conserve the marine animals for the younger generations.

About 1.7 million sea prawns, 10,000 white snappers, and other marine animals were released at the ceremony. In addition, freshwater animals were set free as well, and a total of 2.03 animals were released into the natural environment.

HM's celebration on covers of foreign newspapers

The Agence France-Press (AFP) reports that Thai people across the country were seen clad in yellow shirts in celebration of HM's 79th birthday anniversary. AFP cites His Majesty’s speech delivered yesterday that he is concerned over the ongoing flood situation and praises Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont by saying that the premier is a man of principle and has a strong mind.

The King also lends moral support to the interim government, adding that although the Cabinet are old aged, they possess valuable experiences and they can help alleviate the country’s problems.

At the same time, President of the Dhurakij Pundit University said His Majesty’s moral support to the government can help ease tensions from opposition groups.

Thais nationwide light up candles to wish HM happy birthday

Millions of Thais nationwide simultaneously light up candles nationwide at 7:29 pm Tuesday to wish His Majesty the King a happy birthday.

Hundreds of thousands gather at the Sanam Luang to take part in the ceremony and many more gather at the provincial hall in each province to participate in the simultaneous ceremonies.

Organizers of the event also urged Thais who stay at home to light up candles at the same time to take part in the ceremony.
