Hi guys, first post..be kind? For various reasons unable to get SETV so will get 30 day exemption on arrival. Will be in Thailand for 3 months. Have onward ticket booked to Phnom Phen in 30 days. Initially thought I would get SETV there but on second thought as will be in Cambodia for a couple weeks perhaps more cost effective to just get another visa exemption on return to Thailand and 30 day extension in Chiang Mai. Dread long waits so...what is better option wise ones??  Thanks.

If you are going to be in Phnom Penh for more than about 3 days, use an agent to get a Thai SETV. This is both less hassle and cheaper than an extension in Chiang Mai. Also, it is possible check in in Phnom Penh would not accept your return flight out of Thailand as it is more than 30 days after arrival.

Whatever it is that's keeping you from getting the SETV could conceivably affect your ability to be granted visa exempt entry on arrival.   But if that's your only other option...

 

 

If you come in on a visa exempt 30 day entry, you can go to immigraion in the last wek or so of your 30 day visa exempt entry and get anoher 30 day entry fot a1900 Baht fee.

This has been efect since August 2015 when Back-to Back out- in border runs were stopped for visa free entries.

So if you are allowed in on a visa free 30 day entry unless you have more than 3 visa exempt 30 day entries in your passport, the possibility of getting anothe 30 day extention at this time is good.

That doesn't mean this may not change soon however, but for now it is true.

I use Lucky, Lucky Motorcycle Shop - they have a visa-office in the back.   They will probably ask to see either an airline ticket OR a bank-book showing over $1K USD (in whatever currency).  Any tuk-tuk or moto driver should know where it is, or his friend will.
