BANGKOK, 19 November 2016 (NNT) – Deputy Bangkok Governor Jakkapan Pewngarm has overseen orderliness at Sanam Luang and called on the public to not dump water or garbage onto the trunks of tamarind trees.

As a large number of mourners to the late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej arrived at Sanam Luang and waited to get in the Grand Palace, the deputy Bangkok governor visited the area to oversee the restoration to a total of 783 tamarind trees around Sanam Luang, some of which are older than 100 years.

Puddles were seen at the trunks of 200 tamarind trees caused by the disposal of water and ice left from cooking which might possibly damage the trees. With that problem being solved, the general public were advised to help preserve the tamarind trees by refraining from throwing away garbage, leftovers or water onto their trunks.

The Joint Command for Peace and Order was maintaining the orderliness around Sanam Luang and providing conveniences to the general public. Those waiting in line to pay homage to the late His Majesty the King in the Grand Palace were suggested to enter through the gate on the northern side of the open ground.

The Grand Palace is now capable of accommodating about 2,000 mourners per hour.
