Mixed view on clip of army punishment

ARMY spokesman Colonel Winthai Suvaree hit out this week at trainers involved in controversial physical penalty against a trainee seeking to be part of the Army’s special operations force – yet a number of people who viewed a video of the attack have voiced moral support for the trainers who punished the volunteer.

“An investigating committee of the Army’s Calvary Centre is looking into this case. Further action is pending completion of the investigation. However, a harsh, physical penalty against the trainee is not in line with the Army’s guidelines,” Winthai said.

" Army’s Calvary Centre ". Only a return to the Spanish Inquisition, then. If it was the Army's Cavalry Centre investigating, I would be ok with that. :w00t:

A lot of people have voiced moral support for the soldiers who swept away democracy for their own benefit - which shows how much legitimacy voicing moral support carries.

A professional Army does beat its soldiers to a pulp.  KP duty has worked well for decades, keeping this less disciplined in line.

I wouldn't be over impressed about the "special operations tag".  My stepson was conscripted into a "Special Forces Regiment" After 8 weeks  fairly rudimentary basic training (which in his case seems to have been fairly well conducted, and without beatings) he returned home sporting a red beret, para wings and an airborne shoulder flash. The only time he has been in an aircraft was when we took him on holiday on an Air Asia flight. The only time he has been in a helicopter was when he sat in one parked up on Children's Day a few years ago. In his year in the army he fired his rifle twice and spent two nights in the field. Most of his time was spent growing vegetables, gardening for Officers and playing football. He was home one week in every month. As far as I could make out his unit was a fairly simple light infantry battalion, with minimal support weapons, no means of deploying other than on foot, and virtually no resources for training.

But fortunately no brutality. He quite enjoyed his time, but had no interest in signing on again. Nor did any of his mates.

I wouldn't be surprised if the person who recorded the incident is persecuted. The military don't like unauthorised recording devices on their turf. Remember the incident where those conscripts were made to smash their mobile phones for taking them onto the base when told not to?

Like what my Sergeant always tell me " You can do anything, just don't get caught".

Unbelievable that any human being could give moral support to this kind of barbarity. Sadly, though, ignorance, stupidity and a desperately limited intellect prevails throughout the country.
