Crash Injures 20 Garment Workers

Featured Replies

Twenty garment workers were injured after the truck they were traveling home from work in overturned in Kampong Speu province on Saturday evening.

According to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) report of the accident, dangerous driving by an oncoming truck caused the driver of the truck carrying the women to swerve across the road and resulted it in overturning at 4:40pm in Borseth district. “The truck’s cage collapsed, causing 20 workers to be injured, including eight seriously, and the local authorities and NSSF officials sent them to hospital,” the report said.

A district police official who declined to give his name said the truck was carrying about 50 workers, but that many had been unharmed. “The truck that caused the accident tried to overtake another truck, but it faced a motorbike and this truck coming in the opposite direction,” he said, adding that the driver of the crashed truck had fled the scene before police arrived. The Ministry of Labor announced yesterday that three of the workers had sustained injuries serious enough to be sent to Calmette hospital in Phnom Penh.
