DPM calls for more integration among APEC

BANGKOK, 21 November 2016 (NNT) – A Thai Deputy Prime Minister has called on members of APEC to work in a more integrative manner in a speech closing off the groupings latest meeting.

Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prajin Junthong addressed members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation’s (APEC) economic leaders’ convention, which concluded over the weekend in Lima, Peru.

In his speech, Gen Prajin remarked that economic integration among Asia Pacific nations will lead to stability as well as prosperity both economically and socially. He stated however, that reform is needed in infrastructure and regulation to support integration among businesses, especially smaller sized businesses with low capital and human resources.

The deputy premier pointed out electronic commerce will serve as an important tool to assist SMEs and start-ups and urged APEC to foster the sector. He also bid Asia Pacific countries work harder on developing the skills of their citizens to bridge gaps in knowledge and expertise between countries.

Gen Prajin concluded his speech by saying that Thailand continues to be receptive to the needs of APEC and called for a clearer vision of the group post 2020. He said clear goals based on the changing world are needed up to the year 2030.

The convention saw all 21 APEC nations coming together to discuss economic ties and to enhance bilateral trade relations.

"...He also bid Asia Pacific countries work harder on developing the skills of their citizens to bridge gaps in knowledge and expertise between countries..."

This is one very small fish who is well and truly out of his depth in a very big pond (surrounding APEC).

But, then again, this is not unusual for Thai economists -  https://is.gd/QtG4dd !!!

Slightly off topic... if Thailand has bilateral free trade agreements with Australia and New Zealand, why, for example, is wine & cheese so expensive from these countries? Thailand is good at signing agreements, but I'm sure it's unilateral in their favour naturally...

Agreed. He seems to have delusions of adequacy.

" He also bid Asia Pacific countries work harder on developing the skills of their citizens to bridge gaps in knowledge and expertise  "   someone has to because Thailand certainly can't change its own system to be more like any foreigner system.

They just don't understand, do they?
