Featured Replies

The wife had to escort this snake out of our living room the other day. Can anybody advise what type of snake.

Lovely looking chap. It looks like a Common Bronze Back. Not venomous.

Copperhead racer I would say...

Tend to strike at you if annoyed but its just a defense thing, no teeth to bite you with :)

Don't say that they won't bite, they do.They bite at the slightest provocation and  strike repeatedly.  They are non-venomous to humans but they have venom in their saliva but do not have fangs to deliver it.  It is delivered by chewing after they catch their prey.

They do have teeth, but don't have fangs!

Don't annoy them then :)

Beautiful snake and very common

Are Copperhead Racers and Rat snakes the same thing?

I ask, as when I see brown snakes in or around my garden (running away), I've always assumed they were Rat snakes or Cobras.  But the other day someone I know was talking about an incident with a Copperhead Racer which was lunging to protect itself - and yesterday a fairly big snake was on my patio that started lunging at one of my dogs that was getting too close, which made me think 'Copperhead Racer' and - 'is there a difference between said species and Rat snake'?

I'd expect Cobras to rear up and show their hood before lunging/striking?
