KRABI: -- Opponents of the coal-fired power plant project in Krabi province have welcomed Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha’s decision to delay the project, but said they would like the project to be scrapped once and for all.

“Today, (we) prefer to use the word ‘delay” because we cannot build anything. So be it. But beware of the consequences that may take place in the future. (I am) not threatening anybody. The fact is that, today, there are still occasional blackouts in some areas in the South,” said the prime minister after the cabinet’s meeting on Tuesday.

Reacting to the prime minister’s decision to delay the project, Mr Prasarn Klongrua, one of the core members of the Andaman Protection Network which strongly opposes the project, said he was afraid that the next elected government might revive the project and he called on the prime minister to scrap the project once and for all.

Weren't some ministers bragging about Thailand leading the charge for environmentalism just a week or so ago? "But it will be clean pollution"?

Political coyness at its best. If you want a steady supply of electric snuff it up.

Coal fired technology can be clean with the use of capacitors and flue gas desulpherisation units.

The waste flyash can be used in the construction industry to produce stronger and cheaper concrete.

And with combined cycle units the output can be expanded with no additional input of fuel.
