Cigarette Burn Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Why does Thaivisa.com allow people to openly criticise, mock, degrade and generaly slag off the Queen of England and the British royal family whilst not allowing this to be done in any way, shape or form to other monarchs? http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?s=...t&p=1015217 http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?s=...st&p=988773 http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?s=...t&p=1015683

I am thinking about writing in to 'the post bag' at the Bangkok post and asking what others think about this policy on Thaivisa of being allowed to degrade the British royal family openly in a Thailand orientated website.

It may be due to an eloquence situation in which case we should make allowances. On the other hand you could come across as a thread saboteur ( troll ) in which case you should be ignored and not allowed to cause the havoc and eventually closure of the thread. marshbags I am leaning heavily to the latter and adding T.Visa / before thread saboteur, taking your latest comments into account. ???????? Get a life L.C. and leave the s*** stirring alone. marshbags P.S. Most of us like it here, like 99.9 % of us.

bkkmadness Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Please don't deny us the freedom of speech with regards to criticizing the English monarchy, people have fought hard for that freedom and as we all know it's a freedom denied to citizens of other countries. It doesn't endanger this web board and if we are banned from criticizing the English monarchy I'll be one of the first to complain about it.
Grover Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 sounds like a fair enough question to me. there must be a real reason. eagerly awaiting the real answer !
Wolfie Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 I asked the same question in the Brit bashing thread but it was just ignored by the moderation team.I am thinking about writing in to 'the post bag' at the Bangkok post and asking what others think about this policy on Thaivisa of being allowed to degrade the British royal family openly in a Thailand orientated website. Go for it Croc me old mucka, if your that bored of your membership here we can soon remedy that for you, just say the word.. we have the button! But to clarify a few points here (gleaned from the forum rules, which you all have studied in detail, i'm sure) No disrespect of the King of Thailand or The Thai Royal Family! Discussion of topics concerning the King or other current or deceased members of the Thai Royal Family is forbidden. Last time i looked, the Queen of England had no direct connection to the Thai Royal Family. We do not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message. The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of thaivisa.com or any entity associated with thaivisa.com. Which pretty much covers us against posts like the ones your threatening us with. 5) Discussion of moderation issues, actions or moderation policies concerning individual cases are not allowed in the forums. Such comments should be directed to a moderator or administrator, and not discussed on the forum. Then of course is this golden chestnut, which can be used in a situation such as this... So, London Croc, do you wish to retract your veiled threat now or should we take this matter further? Your choice my friend, choose wisely.
Tywais Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 What happens if you are accused of Les Majeste in Britain and what happens here? Doubt if Thaivisa will be shut down or anyone arrested for the former.

I think you mean Queen Elizabeth I. Whilst, strictly speaking Queen Elizabeth II does not hold the title of Queen of England that is how she is known to most of the world. You state that we have not had a Queen of England since 1603 - you are 111 years out! Both Queen Mary II and Queen Anne held the title Queen of England.
bkkmadness Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 5) Discussion of moderation issues, actions or moderation policies concerning individual cases are not allowed in the forums. I never did understand this rule, its used to ban all subjects on moderation, even those that do not deal with individual cases. Why doesn't it say 'Moderation is not to be discussed in any way shape of form'. Taking moderation issues to Mods doesn't work either, frequently pms are ignored, so thats why you still have the topics popping up in here. I see no reason to ban discussion of the English Royal family, bring it on. Why do you want this topic banned from the forum?
rcm Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 not quite sure what this threat has to do with Thailand....

bkkmadness Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 How did that answer any post on this thread Bronco? London crocs not talking about whole threads on the subject (which don't have to be Thailand related anyway if they are in the correct sub forums) but the comments insulting the English royal family that are left on the board in other threads. Just to clarify.
Axel Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Well, the first post the OP complains about seems to be Thailand-related. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?s=...t&p=1015217 Than let's face it, what H.M. The Queen had to go through with her Sons, daughter in laws etc. will be watched in Thailand with mild amusement, at the most.

PeaceBlondie Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 It's very simple: being in Thailand, we don't criticize the THAI MONARCHY. We can criticize any other monarchy, except the monarchy of the King George who controls ThaiVisa.

Nice, when you see something you don't like then personal attacks are in order I always thought that was against the forum rules? Just to make my comments clear. I refer to L.C and his last paragraph relating to the B. Post and postbag. As far as anyone commenting on the British Royal Family it is acceptable to do this in the U.K. without censorship. While hopefully not being offensive. You will get plenty of flak to say the least if you do, not with standing possible legal action against you. While not being a 100% Royalist i respect all that is good about them and the benefits that go with them, especially under priviledged and charitable work. This is my personal view and one i,m entitled to state as a proud citizen of our country. marshbags

London Crocodile Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 So, London Croc, do you wish to retract your veiled threat now or should we take this matter further? Your choice my friend, choose wisely. There was no threat made, i'm simply looking for an answer the same as the OP of this thread. For a website dedicated to a Kingdom who's people so adore the Monarchy i just find it strange that it alows derogetory comments and slurs to be made against the Monarchy of another nation. A nation who's royal representatives were invited by HRM the King of Thailand to come and celebrate his 60th year on the throne. I'm sure many Thai people would be shocked and quite upset to know that a website dedicated to the kingdom alowed such things to be writen and left on the board even after it had been brought to the attention of the people in charge. It may not be law, but i think it is very disrespectful. I'm sure a website that was Thai owned would not let this happen. Again i make no threats and never have done, i'm only looking for answers. I have never had an issue with anything else about the board but i find this to be a double standard and again, i find it very insulting. I am English, I'm not Thai, does this mean i cannot hold the royal family of my birth country in the same high regard as Thai people do?
bkkmadness Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 The simple answer is Thai Law allows it, that's why Thaivisa does.
jbowman1993 Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Lets all switch to Bush Bashing instead! It works for me!
tragic hedgehog Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 think Bkk Madness is pretty much spot there London Croc. Negative comments about the Thai Royal family could see you locked up here, similar comments about the British Royal Family would not. And I wouldn't imagine for one minute that Thais could give a toss either way about anybody making negative comments about the British Royal family.
george Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 BKK madness did a good summary. In addition we should not bash anyone on the forum, Royalty or not. I think this makes a happy ending of this thread. Thanks! /George
