Marriage...

Featured Replies

Hello,

Thanks to all your posts I am relatively good informed about the procedures to get married in Thailand. I have just one question: Instead of going to my country’s embassy in Bangkok to get the documentation showing that I am able to get married would it be possible to bring the same documentation issued from the district office in the city where I live here in Italy. The reason is that I live practically next door to the district office and I can get the documentation needed in less than five minutes, in Bangkok this might be more complicated and take much longer…

Of course the procedure regarding translation and authentication would remain the same and had to be done in Thailand.

So…what do you think?

I would like to thank you for the excellent information offered on your website!

Thank you so much and ...bye, bye! :o

I think the issue is what papers your embassy require to provide you with the papers required by the Thai authorities. The Danish embassy required (among other things) papers similar to the one you mention and issued in my hometown. The embassy then provided me with a "certification" stating I was unmarried, what my income was the preceeding year and bla, bla, bla. Basically the paper was just a statement that I was an okay guy as far as the embassy knew. That was all the homecountry-paperworks the Thais required.

Each embassy seems to do things a bit differently. If you don't get replies from countrymen having been in your shoes, your best option will be to ask your embassy.
