Taking a stand on principle is new for these times and is unusual in Thailand. TVF is filled with many threads condemning Thai kids. Well, this one is rather admirable, and I respect him for what he has done. He is awesome.

Chula has a  rather poor standing amongst the world's universities becuase of its  emphasis on non academic customs. In plain language, it needs  less hazing, less bowing before statues, less mass oath making, less marching, less decorating tables for teachers' day, and less arts and crafts activities in favour of and more academic activities, more research and more athletics are needed.

With respect l'm sure some kids have been like that in the past to some degree but the media coverage of today and reporting was not about I do not condone his headstrong actions or views he should not be attending such a college where some-kind of historic cultural respect is expected by that college of the students.

“This symbolic act of rebellion challenges so many conventional ideas at Chula and in Thai society,” she said. While others accuse him of destroying tradition, Worada said it cannot be destroyed, only set aside if people find no more use for it. "

“Thai society is thirsting for new thoughts and ideas because society and government closes opportunities for such,” he said.

Another kid with a desire to push a globalist agenda.

Destroying Western civilization, traditions, nuclear family and identity and now it's spreading to Asia...

Well, tradition is crucial in every society, that's my belief.

I wouldn't like Thailand to become another Singapore or Hong Kong. These countries are doing well economically speaking, mostly due to their strategic locations but they have no identity and not a strong sense of tradition. They didn't give me a unique feeling when I visited them, it was like I'm visiting another Western city.

In contrast Chiang Mai, Kanchanaburi, Krabi  and even Bangkok give me a unique feeling, a Thai feeling.

And I wouldn't like it to be changed.

The status quo is trying to protect the Thai identity. This status quo has its downsides and upsides as everything in life and everybody is acting like Thailand is the most corrupt country in the world.

Thailand's is ranked 65th in the Corruption Index, Thailand is less corrupt than China (72nd), Philippines (83rd), Indonesia (77th) , Vietnam (98th), Laos (122nd), Myanmar (130th) and Cambodia (133th).

I don't know what you want Thailand to become but for me, Thailand without her tradition is scarier than Thailand with it.

They need to think of other people in my opinion, there are way too many selfish people here especially when driving but it goes way farther than that, simply  no thought process at all leading to umpteen possibilities for injury from metal  poles  sticking out of vendors  carts  /shops at eye  level to roads with 2  metre wide 30cm+ deep holes vehicles with no lights on at  night etc, no sense of responsibility and thats  just the motoring side.

Its a worldwide phenomena but what ever happened to "decency"

What I dont want is the over the  top regulation the Uk has had which then  stifles many things.

Tradition is in most cases nonsense. Its tradition teenage girls have genital mutilation is  just one example from another country.....................keep it because "its tradition"

We're not talking about this other African country though.

We're talking about Thailand.

And Thailand as many of the other southeast Asian countries has a very beautiful culture and tradition, you just have to dig in and discover it :)
