I have a work permit and my stamp in my passports says Extension of Stay until Dec. 31st 2017.  There is a Re-entry permit stamp that says multiple  and is also stamped with a Dec 31st 2017 date.  There is an asterisk with the words "* To keep your stay permit re-entry permit must be made before leaving Thailand"  I am guessing that is part of the Extension Stamp.  I am flying to the US for Christmas, do I need to do anything before I leave as I have the re-entry stamp already in my passport?

You don't have to do anything before you leave.  When you return be sure to check they notice the Re-Entry Permit and stamp you in until 31/12/2017.  Write the Re-Entry Permit number in the Visa number space on the arrival card.

The message about a re-entry permit is part of the extension stamp.

You don't need to do anything before leaving the country.

Be sure you put the re-entry permit number in the space for a visa number on the arrival card when you return.
