Quitting job and leaving Thailand

Featured Replies

Dear all,

I have worked in 2016 for a Thai company (operating under the Bureau of Investment rules) with a work permit and Non-B visa. Recently I have resigned and my last working day will be in mid December, after which I will immediately return to my home country. They will still owe me December's salary at the end of the month which would be paid out as regular to my Thai bank account. My official effective date is only on the 1st of January, the second half of December are actually paid leave although I won't be in the country anymore.

My question is whether on my last day of working I am legally supposed to go to immigration to turn in my work permit and cancel my visa? I'm a bit reluctant to do so as it may create problems with my salary payment or with my bank account. Would it be good enough if my company returned it later, in January 2017?

Also, do I need to submit a P.N.D. 93 Personal Income Tax Return for taxpayers filing in advance , or would it be sufficient to do a regular income tax return next year for the full year of 2016?
Would it be wise to give someone in my company power of attorney or would it be easy to do from abroad?  I may need an Income Tax Payment Certificate so it is also important from my side that everything is done properly.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

The proper way is to have your work permit and extension canceled before leaving. If using the one stop center in Bangkok they will give you 7 days to leave the country.

Having your extension and work permit canceled will have no effect on having your final salary payment deposited in your bank account.

Not sure about the tax return question. That would be better asked  on the Jobs, economy, banking, business, investments forum.
