Getting security deposits returned; Thai libel laws

Recommended Posts

Just read the thread "How to get deposit money back from a dodgy landlord?".

This makes it appear that there is about a 98% chance of not getting apt./home rental deposits returned when the lease is up.

Is this accurate?

Also -

I've seen the Thai libel laws referred to previously and now in that thread.

I'd assumed that there is Yelp.com or a Thai equivalent in Thailand but now it seems this doesn't exist as the libel laws allow for being sued PLUS jail time.

Clearly if there was a website where one could report that "renting an apartment at xxx Main Street i was scammed out of having my security deposit returned" it would help to end that practice for many landlords or their business would be hurt by anyone researching the site before renting.

Likewise for other businesses with unethical practices.

I guess this falls under the "This is Thailand"/shrug motto?

Landlords are usually part of the elite, and as such  the libel and defamation laws are designed to keep them in power

Only country that I have ever heard of where the truth is no defense against libel and defamation
