BANGKOK: -- Two Bolivians who carried a stash of cocaine on airlines around the world were finally caught when their bags were searched at Suvarnabhumi airport.

The two drug couriers had taken an unusual flight - they started their journey in Sao Paulo, Brazil before continuing to Togo. From Togo they went on to Addis Ababa in Ethiopia before landing in Thailand, reports Sanook.

They were then going to finish their odyssey in Siem Reap in Cambodia.

But customs officials got suspicious after two bags were x-rayed in transfer and when they were searched five kilos of cocaine, a class two illegal drug in Thailand, was found.

A bag belonging to Mrs Nancy Caseres, 41 contained 2.6 kilos of the drug while her travelling companion Mr Enrique Reque, 39, had 2.4 kilograms.

Both were detained on Friday.

Extraordinary, or not, that the Customs or law enforcement officials are searching those bags without disposable gloves on their hands. Either brave, stupid, or both. Contamination of the evidence is most assured, but then again, TiT!

I still shake my head as to why anyone..in this day and age...want to attempt to carry drugs on planes/between countries etc...they must be very naïve, desperate for money, or both...why take such a risk?

Posted

Let's see, they smuggled the drugs through 5 countries with 5 customs borders to cross, to get it to 1 country? They'd have better odds playing roulette!

Roulette is fun, smuggling is stupid.

Possibly, they successfully did a number of drug runs before, into other countries ...but this time...Nope.....did not work out in their favor.

By, By .......Adios .......Enjoy your stay in one of Thailand's finest penitentiaries.

Cheers

Or greedy?

Odds of getting caught are maybe 1 in 500.. potential return on investment maybe 100 to 1.

The better question is why dont these traffickers recruit the soon to be pattaya balcony jumpers who ran out of cash.

If they are succesful, they can extend their stay in life. If caught, can commit suicide in jail.

You already said it.  Naive and desperate for money.  And the guy who arranged it assured them there would be no problems.

Yep, I always have said before committing suicide rob a bank. If you get away with a few hundred thousand dollars then the last thing on your mind would be suicide. Get caught, just stick the gun in mouth, it was gonna happen any way

Hope these people get to be girl friends or boy friends in

prison.  I knew a Thai fellow who worked at the jail in

Chang Mai, he said  no  one came out of there over weight

except the guards. Prisoners do not get a lot of meat in most

prisons in Thailand. Unless you count the local animal that

fell into the food vat.

Geezer

Geezer

Meat had zero carbohydrates so it's literally impossible to gain weight on pure meat. They do get rice though but it's the lowest grade available

It depends on the country.  On that aussie tv show border control they have the programs on youtube.  One of the shows this really distraught malnourished African fellow got caught and he didn't seem to upset over it.  Some of the poster's comments were that he now had 5 or 6 years in an aussie prison getting fed and sleeping in more comfort than he ever had been and that he probably wanted to get caught as he had few other options in life.

But back to the drug carrying on planes.  I wonder what the actual percentages are of how much drug is transported and how much is caught?  Many ways to count the statistics.  By number of people, size of the cache etc.  Based on the number of travelers, I suspect there is a very measurable amount of people risking traveling with drugs.
