Roadside bomb attack injure four border police in deep South

NARATHIWAT: -- Four border policemen were injured this morning in a roadside bomb attack in Sungai Kolok district of Narathiwat province.

The border policemen from 447th company were on a routine patrol in a pickup truck on the Padangyo village road in Sungai Kolok when the southern insurgents detonated a roadside bomb at about 10.00 am.

The explosion injured four policemen and also the deflated tyres of the truck.

Security officials near the attack scene were alerted and helped to rush all the injured to Sungai Kolok hospital.

They were also hunting down the attackers who were believed to be hiding near the place.

I suspect that the pickup was a standard model sold at any dealers and not an armoured model which would have given some measure of protection to the occupants. A normal pick up is certainly cheaper until you figure the replacement costs  of it plus the injuries to the 4 man crew and their hospitalisation and recovery costs also not to mention the blow to the troops morale.

And todays article #43 headlines are - The Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC) revealed that its Kam Pong Tak Wa campaign has been successful in restoring peace in the Deep South.

well I never!

The SUARA POLL undertaken by Yala Rajabhat University’s Research and Southern Border Development Institute in January 2016 showed that 98.9%  of respondents in the South supported the operations of SBPAC in its work to deal with problems in the southern border provinces.

I guess the attackers were part of the 1.1%.
